I love watching this stuff on the Travel Channel, but I'm not ready to get my ass handed to me by poker sharpies like Parsons & Lou with real money. (well, not just yet)

ladbrokespoker.com is brilliant for hold-em for play money. The tournaments for play money are especially good. there are many big real money games as well but like me you're not that confident.

they have Play money games at partypoker but they are always full with people practicing...

I asked once and they said they concentrate more on the real money tables and that there are enough for everyone to site at, understandable.

I strongly recommend against playing for play money since it has absolutely nothing to do with real money play. Instead I suggest micro limits. PokerStars has stakes as low as 0.02-0.04 which has play slightly resembling real money games. And you can move up gradually and make the transition one step at a time. Definitely the way to go IMO. But if you see anyone on your table from Hungary, look out!!

Good links guys.

Darryl,
Do you suspect much collusion at the real money online tables? That is another worry of mine - it's hard enough being green, but if I'm playing against partners I'll get cleaned up quick.

Lander I have Ace Ace

I would start the pot by raising to the max of .03 but I want to milk people and fool them into thinking I have nothing. So I will call your .01

Hello Guys,

AmericasCardroom is good for play money and have lots of free tournaments.

Collusion online is not as big of a problem as most think. In most cases they end up loosing more then they win and most of the poker site backends have reports which can show collusion between players.

lander,

There is certainly collusion happening at the higher limits but the good sites are doing a lot to minimize it. You get protection from the sites monitoring IP addresses, doing stats on how often pairs of players are on the same table etc. and if something looks out of line, they investigate it. If they make a blatantly suspicious play, you can report it and if it turns out it happens regularly with those players involved, you will likely get reimbursed by the site and the players who did it to you will get banned.

Of course these measures just reduce collusion, not eliminate it. Still, I would say collusion hurts you less than tokes to dealers and cocktail waitresses and you get way more hands online. This is only my opinion and not a hard fact so let the player beware!

What is fact, though, is that a good buddy of mine does very well at 20-40 and higher limits and he has never cheated in his life.
