I have seen offshore books (e.g. BetonSports) advertise on sports talk shows in the US but have noticed that they don't advertise in the local newspapers.

Is there a reason why they don't? Do the newspapers not allow them to advertise? Have they simply never tried it? What is it?

Thanks in advance, guys.

Only a few allow it now. Operators have stories of putting a 2x2 ad in the newspaper and getting 400 players. That was in the mid 90's. Nowdays you run a full page ad and you will be lucky to get 5 players.

betgameday (I think) had a half page ad run in the PSU student newspaper a few weeks back. Didn't even ruffle any feathers from what I can tell. Very surprising since colleges are so up in arms about gambling

Seems like the scamdicappers advertise in USA Today all the time, but books don't?

I find it hard to believe that these book wouldn't want to advertise in USA Today on Fridays. I bet USA Today doesn't allow it - but if they don't, how can they allow scamdicappers to advertise there?
