I think it depends a bit on how long each series goes - I think -140 may be a little low, am thinking -150 to -160 more likely. At least that's what I'm incorporating into my hedge projections IF the Cubs make it, I figure Boston would be -125 to -130 if they get in.

And the NYY will also have the home field because of the A.L. victory in the all star game. Put that in there too, along with the world series experience of the NYY, and the much better team overall, and the NYY are easily a -200 favorite.

Prediction..

Series Price..

NYY -220
Chicago +200

Hey Blue.. if the NYY are not at least a -200 favorite, I will give you a free 4 team parlay, courtesy of Sick Gambler to win 300 bucks. And I insist...

And I am really going against the house here, which is not good, as everyone has them at -140 to -160 avg.. There's just no way they can be less than 2 to 1.. The only thing that can happen here and not make en a 2-1 fav is if a lot of players have the cubs in a future to win it all, and the books know that a lot of players will hedge the Cubs, so the books make the price low on the NYY, so the players who do hedge the Cubs, get some buyback on the Cubs at a very bad price..

Dominates tommorow, the line will be around -160. And thats if the Yankees get there. That, said, if The Marlins beat up Prior and the Cubs have to go to game 7 with Wood the line might be higher, especially if the Yanks make short work of the Sox. A lot depends on how these series wind down. Public opinion will change dependeing on who wins and how.

wil.

If the Cubs clinch Tue and get to rest and have the pitching rotation they want they will be great value at +200. Since they are huge fav Tue I predict NYY-170, and what i hope Bos -135. IMH(and sober)O

I would expect to find a lot of value on the AL if the Cubs get to the world series. Books already have so much exposure on the Cubs that they wont want to encourage more Cubs action.

Ok, let's assume the Cubs finish up in Game 6 tomorrow and let's assume NYY can set their rotation as they choose. I'm also going to assume both teams use a 4-man. It would be:
1 Wood at Mussina
2 Prior at Pettite
3 Clemens at Clement
4 Wells at Zambrano
5 Mussina at Wood
6 Prior at Pettite
7 Clement at Clemens
With the possible exception of Game 7 I don't see the Cubs anywhere near +200 for any games. I'd say conservatively favoring NYY it would be:
1 NY-135
2 NY-120
3 NY-120
4 Chi-120
5 Chi-135
6 NY-120
7 NY-180
With Wood and Prior going Games 1 and 2 on the road I just can't see the Cubs being big dogs anywhere. Just no way those numbers could add up to +200.

Again, it depends on how these series' play out, it would be a big negative to the Cubs if they have to go 7 because then they'd have to throw Prior and Wood both on 3 days' rest to go in the first two games.

The Braves were roughly -130 -- are the Yankees that much better than the Braves. A very similar formula beat NYY in 2001 with Arizona.

I jsut don't see any way the books could throw up a +200 on the Cubbies. -160 to -170 tops IMO, quite possibly less.

Revere, that's an interesting idea, what do you think that will really mean as far as the line goes for a potential Yanks/Cubs series? I would think you;d see a lot of Cubs action at pretty much of kind of postiive odds.

I'm pretty sure the Yanks would open up favored between -150 and -170.

D2bets, there is no way that Baker will open up with that rotation. I think if they finish it up tomorrow, though I'm not sure they will, you'll see
1) Clement
2) Wood
3) Prior
4) Zambrano
5) Clement
6) Wood
7) Prior
If they should lose tomorrow, I think you'll see Wood and Prior flipped, with Prior scheduled for games 2 and 6, and Wood for 3 and 7.

When you make it to the final series, you put your best guys out there as much as you can. You don't worry about rest unless you can get a comfortable lead in the series. I think he will go with Wood and Prior in 1 and 2 if he can so his options stay open.

Wildbill,

If I remember correctly, there was some talk of Dusty regretting starting Livian in their Game 7 loss last year. If Dusty goes with Wood and Prior in 1 and 2, I'd expect a three-man rotation. If he uses the four, I wouldn't expect him to set up Clement in a possible Game 7 in New York, but we shall see.
