The head of a major hotel-casino association is distancing the group from reports that the FBI is reviewing allegations of improper lobbying activity at the Nevada Legislature.

Bill Bible, head of the Nevada Resort Association, commented after the FBI confirmed a preliminary review is being conducted to see whether a formal probe into lobbying activity is warranted.

Senator Mark Amodei confirmed he was questioned about lobbying practices as lawmakers wrangled over higher taxes.

The often bitter tax debate ended with approval of a record 836 million-dollar tax plan. Missing from the final package was a proposed gross receipts levy favored by the casino industry.

One reported area of concern was the loss of lucrative beer contracts that had been held by a beer distributor allegedly warned to support the gross receipts tax or face economic retaliation.

Bible says he wasn't aware of any coercive tactics. He adds the FBI hadn't interviewed him.
