The best QB's in the league are the one's that are accurate and have pocket awareness. Remember Montana hitting Rice in perfect stride or Aikman dropping the ball perfectly to Irvin. Watch the way that Gannon hits Garner so that Garner doesn't have to miss a step or slow at all. Favre can throw the ball in opening of 6 inches. The other things that a lot of these QB's have in common is that it's as if they have eyes in the backs of their head. They get rid of the ball a second before they're hit. I remember an immobile Marino stepping to the right or left to avoid a rush and then throwing for a 60 yd TD. They have a feel for the rush. Today's running QB's don't see a rusher when he's right in his face and they fumble. They also fumble when they leave the pocket and carry they ball a foot away from there body so that a strong wind will knock the ball out of their hand. I think that publicity and higlights have made QB's like McNabb as popular as he is because it sure isn't production. The same goes for the other running QB's that have never looked at a 3rd receiver in their life. They have a tough enough time hitting the first rec that they look at. In my book I'll take the accurate passer that can hit a rec in stride and the guy with pocket awareness.
raiders, can't totally agree with you. Yes, the current "running" QBs (Vick, McNAbb) have these issues, but that is because they cannot throw as well as others or don't have the receiveing core to back them up. A mobile QB is always a bonus because you have to defend against him running the ball when the receivers are covered. Right now, the running QB is just being worked out. Within 2-3 years, I think you will see the majority of QB doing this in the NFL.

There are very few white quarterbacks with the athleticism to be considered "runners" though..most of those get swapped to another position than quarterback, which I guess is just insulting to suggest to a black college quarterback who can't pass but can run like crazy.
