There is allot the books can do to protect their sites from these packet floods so don't EVER give in. We can outsmart them.

But we know for sure we can all thank Bill Gates and Microsoft for selling software full of security HOLES that these attackers take advantage of and use Window's PC for all kinds of attacks.

Mark my words.... One day there will be a successful class action lawsuit against MSFT for selling and marketing defective products, no matter what disclaimers they have when you agree to use their software.

Its a shame that the entire world has become completely comfortable with paying good money for your O.S. that proudly touts

"There is no implied warranty of
merchantability and fitness for
a particular purpose."

That is one block of writing that microsoft has certainly done right.

LIFESABET - That may be in the licensing agreement that we all click on "I Agree"

But the state of California is taking Microsoft to court stating that some of the disclaimers in Microsofts licensing agreement are NOT legal and go against the laws in that state.
Especially when it comes to the issue of Security for the consumer and businesses. Microsoft WON'T win this.

So even if the verbage is there in the Lic agreement it is ILLEGAL.

This was just in the news yesterday I believe. I will try to find the story.

I can see both sides - for and against Microsoft. On the one hand, they certainly have some responsibility to provide security for their service.

On the other hand, I think it's impossible to have 100% hacker/DOS attack prevention, it's a continual game of cat and mouse. Hell, we can't have 100% crime prevention as a society.

So just as a general question, what constituted negligence by Microsoft on these DOS attacks? I'm not a techie, just would like to know.

Not a monopoly by any stretch of the imagination. There have always been alternatives; the fact that they are not as popular and therefore require a bit of legwork to bring up to ... oh ... up to MicroSoft standards ... hehehehehe ... doesn't mean that M$ is a monopoly.

I use Knoppix OS and every now and again boot the WindowsMe that is lurking on my system. I have no trouble finding great compatible software, and because almost all of it is open source I can tweak it up to my own standards rather than M$ shitty lowest-common-denominator crap.

Don't hate M$ because it's a piece of garbage. It is, after all, just following the consumer dollar around.

Most servers (the victims of a DDOS) are run on non M$ products.

Exactly. That's why I feel we should support more Open Source platforms that are FREE and give Micro$oft a run for their money.

There are so many security holes in Micro$oft products, and the fact the Micro$oft products are everywhere in PC's Severs etc..it is only going to get WORSE and more and more machines will get compromised before it ever gets better.

As Micro$oft only fixes something AFTER the fact...usually when it's too late.

I'll say it again...Bill Gates STOP raking in the dough and FIX your BAD fuking software!!!

I agree with your views on Open Source. I'd venture to guess that the only reason so many MS solutions exist is because their massive advertising appeals to Execs.
