Besides flipping off the Boston crowd and not being able to get anyone out, Byun Yun Kim ran into more problems when he became angry after the Red Sox Game 5 victory over the Oakland A's. Kim became upset and started shouting when he realized there was no fried rice or eggrolls on the post game buffet.
He immediately found Red Sox GM Theo Epstein and requested a trade after the season. Epstein stated he would try to work out a deal but Kim then demanded that he only be traded to a team that had no letter "l" in the team name.

One thing you have to give credit to the Sox for was that they were dealing from a position of strength and while Kim didn't prove to be a great closer he was still better than anyone else in their bullpen.
Even Williamson from the Reds didn't work out right away and he will be the first to admit it.
So, the subtraction of Hillenbrand did not hurt the Sox with Mueller stepping up, but the question is, early in the season, could they have gotten a better reliever for Hillenbrand?

You guys are blaming Williamson? WHY? For the outing in Oakland in Game 5?
The BEST managers put their players in a position to succeed. Grady Little doesn't. Would Dusty Baker or Jack Mckeon have put Williamson out their to pitch his 5th game in 6 days, and third game in a row and after he had pitched two innings in one of the previous games? HELL NO
Grady Little put Williamson in a position to fail. NO PLAYER is THAT durable - except for maybe Scott Sullivan, who can pitch everyday.
Grady Little has a lot to learn. I would like to see him manage a young team like McKeon does in Florida or a young pitching staff like Baker does in Chicago. He would fail miserably. He is good in the clubhouse, and one needs that in a 6 month season, but Grady Little needs a few lessons in making moves.
Hell Tony Larusa made him look pretty stupid during the interleague play by always having a lefty ready waiting for Trot Nixon - though people blamed Trot, I blame Grady for not putting Trot in a position to succeed.

Definitely do not blame Williamson for one bad outing in playoffs. what I was trying to point out was that during regular season, Williamson was very erratic (maybe even downright bad) when he came over. He even has openly admitted this and he attributes in part to his infant and wife being very ill.

Cincy- Well said. Grady Little made two bad decisions in game 5 and the Red Sox were very lucky they pulled that game out. As you pointed out with Williamson, he was overused. He had thrown 42 pitches total in Games 3 and 4 and then he's asked to pitch for a third game in a row. No. Lowe should have started the inning.
Grady Little's first mistake was letting Pedro Martinex start the 8th inning. Because of the collision in the bottom of the 7th inning, it had been nearly 30 minutes from when Martinez threw his last pitch in the bottom of the 7th until he threw his first pitch in the bottom of the 8th. That's way too long for him to sit, especially after throwing 130 pitches in Game 1 and 96 pitches already in Game 5.
Lowe threw 2 great pitches to save the victory in Game 5 but I'm not sure the Red Sox can get away with the mistakes they made vs the A's when they have to play the Yankees.
