and wagering online becomes offical ILLEGAL how do you think it will effect the books?

What percent of gamblers do you think will stop with the threat of jail time if it is included in the bill?

I think most of the Recreational gamblers will quit or find locals, will this effect some of the books.

Dante,

I am a recreational gambler and am struggling with this question for myself. Even if the legislation is passed without the threat of jail time, I don't know how I could deposit/withdraw funds easily.

I am seriously considering withdrawing most of my funds now to beat the onslaught when the legislation passes. If, somehow, it doesn't, I can always get back in.

I am extremely interested in how others feel at this time as well.

I too will stop the minute the law is passed.

Not worth the risk of getting pinched IMO.

Its not going to be illegal to bet, it will be illegal to send monetary instruments. Big distinction. Thing is the Feds will as they always do try to stretch the truth and make implied statements that gambling offshore is illegal. Properly structured I still think it would be hard for them to get a convinction against a bettor so I doubt they will even try. What they like to do though is get someone else that they think is committing other crimes and use them as an example, the ole Al Capone method. Someone will get put on trial and they will go out of their way to show this person's indiscretions and then in a circular fashion get back to the fact that some of his dough ended up in some account in CR that was capable of betting $100 parlays. The average Joe that reads here has almost zero chance of being implicated in any of this because prosecutors and lawmakers take a big risk anytime you take something to court that in the end more activity will be legally allowed when the trial is over than when you started. Better to leave the threat of prosecution and not actually prosecute it is the general idea.

Bill,
How exactly are we going to send & receive money if it's illegal? That is another concern I have ... the books losing so much actions that the likelihood of stiffs increases.

Dante,
I thought you said I was paranoid?

But I see you are the one that is bringing the topic up!
Wild Bill,
I like the way you word this thing. Allmost makes me think you own an offshore book or part of one. When a law (IF passed) has a statement that the PLAYER is to be punished (ie the sender of funds or the receiver of funds); then I think you will see most recreational players such as myself say so long-no matter how nicely it's worded.

So true but most don't really know HOW to think that way and understand that's true with many things.....they want action/closure now! and that's what usually screws-up the system (when it works of course)

miaplus3,

I don't know the status. But we can take turns every other Monday--posting the question here:

"What's the Status"?

Next Monday is your turn to post it.
Someone will know. (I don't think the government, will be mailing us a broshure explaining it and I can't afford to ask an attorney)

Its against the law now to book in all 50 states unless you are lucky enough to get a NV. Gaming License (LMAO). It is a misdemeanor to make a bet in about 20 states maybe more also...........nothing is going to change, people are going to bet whether its offshore or on.

i beleave this law is more for sportsbooks and site owners that receive advertising money from these books so let just say you make sure you cover your tracks oh yea, one more thing if you are a site owner make sure you don't transer this kind of money back into the states because thats how there gonna get you. just my 2 cents on this one is all take it for what it's worth.
