The ump called a force at second. Who cares if Sheffield ran past the runner who's out??

That is the whole point. If Sheffield passes Giles on the basepath before the force out at second, then Sheffield is out and Giles would be forced out at second. Double Play. That is what McCarver is saying.

Guys, I think you should edit the title. Before you say something like that maybe you should be sure. He was 100% correct. I have it on tape and I've watched it 5 times now. It was clear that Sheffield a step or two past Giles prior to the force at 2nd. Therefore, Sheffield should have been out by rule and Giles forced out at 2nd for a DP.

Of course it really should have been a DP with no runs scoring and Gile still at 1st. What I don't understand them saying is how it could have been a triple play. It wouldn't have been because Giles didn't move off of 1st.

It is amazing how people jump to conclusions when they do not understand the rules. Unabomber, seriously read the rule book before commenting on someone else's observation.

I understand the rule.

McCarver originally never said "he thought the force out happened after Sheffield passed". He couldn't understand what was going on. He clearify it when he came back from commercial.

Unabomber, Read the rule book, understand them, then comment. Plain and simple. If you can read.

Did anyone understand what that (obviously drunk) "official" said about the rule? He sounded totally clueless. If runner #1 passes runner #2 who is a live baserunner (which Giles was UNTIL the force) then runner #1 is automatically out. Runner #2 can then be forced at as Giles was. Someone please show me a rule which changes that. IMO that guy didn't know what he was talking about. I suppose I could be wrong, but McKeon made no sense to me.

No longer a "force player"? Someone got a rulebook?

Unabomber, All I am pointing out is you are so quick to jump to conclusions when you are clueless yourself. Like I said, understand the rules before posting. Simple. You don't see me posting dumb comments without fully understanding the situation myself. Get a clue, MORON!

No. I think you're the one who doesn't read my posts. You couldn't wait to write about how I didn't know the rule before you even knew what I was talking about.

But remember to make sure you fully understand the situation before you post a dumb comment.
