Everyone,

Unfortunately, as most of you will be only too well aware, several sportsbooks have been targeted recently here by the same group of extortionists that attacked other books last weekend and previously.

As many of us share a hosting solution, which is of the highest quality under most usual conditions, we are all affected by the current attack levelled at us.

The books involved are

Everyone working here in the Bon Bini business center is doing a fantastic job handling telephone calls - and email and live chat inquiries, and our businesses are keeping their heads above water with the flow of activity.

Please be patient during this period - the telephone lines will be busy regularly, but your call is in a queue, so don't hang up - you will get answered usually within 60 seconds even at peak times.

Our ISP locally and their upstream providers are co-operating with our system provider IGW, and we are confident that a solution will be found in the near future.

There is a strong probability that the problem will continue throughout the weekend, and we ask you to understand that we are doing everything in our power to minimize the inconvenience to you the players.

I would like to show my respect to Will at Hollywood who has been in contact, and has kindly offered assistance to us, so that we can hopefully beat this like they have done.

Thanks again for your understanding,
Alistair

I apologize that I completely omitted to mention Oasis, simply because they are separate from us. Their web site is http://www.oasiscasino.com - tel 1-800 922 4515

Sorry about that - I know they have been fighting this the last 24 hours also, and I am sure we will all win in the end.

Alistair

VIP,
Thanks for the update.

Any chance VIP, GD, SB, etc .. could post their lines here every 30 minutes or so?

I feel like I'm writing a blank check if I call in with out knowing the price.

Thanks.

btw - Great job standing up to these guys

I'm sure you know better than anyone that the easy route is to cave it, but you're a better company for sticking to your principles

Lander, I doubt if they can do anything with any consistency-including send emails, post to the forums, etc.

If these Russian mob fukks(if it's them) actually have the bandwidth that I've seen posted that they do, they can CRIPPLE some of these countries-let along books.

DON"T PAY, PERIOD!!!!

VIP-

Thanks for that VERY informative update. I started a thread earlier today to get Shrink or the Mods to coordinate all this attack info and phone numbers into one spot.

I'm going to copy this info, and add it to the thread I started earlier to bump it in the queue.

I don't quite get it. Isn't it possible to just ban those bastards based on their IPs? I've heard they have enormous bandwidth at their disposal, but I suppose not so many IPs? And if not that, then why not just call their ISPs and inform them about such illegal activities?

If it were only that simple. However, these are most likely DISTRIBUTED Denial of Service attacks (DDsS) ... here's a cut and paste from techtarget.com:

quote:
On the Internet, a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack is one in which a multitude of compromised systems attack a single target, thereby causing denial of service for users of the targeted system. The flood of incoming messages to the target system essentially forces it to shut down, thereby denying service to the system to legitimate users.
A hacker (or, if you prefer, cracker) begins a DDoS attack by exploiting a vulnerability in one computer system and making it the DDoS "master." It is from the master system that the intruder identifies and communicates with other systems that can be compromised. The intruder loads cracking tools available on the Internet on multiple -- sometimes thousands of -- compromised systems. With a single command, the intruder instructs the controlled machines to launch one of many flood attacks against a specified target. The inundation of packets to the target causes a denial of service.

While the press tends to focus on the target of DDoS attacks as the victim, in reality there are many victims in a DDoS attack -- the final target and as well the systems controlled by the intruder.

Thanks Joe. I wonder how much it will cost them (in terms of software) from being vulnerable to these attacks...

The solution is essentially a hardware solution using upstream routers to drop offending traffic. Since they are reported to control 200 Megs that is an enormous amount to drop.

In many respects I would think the source of this problem can be placed with Microsoft and their crummy OS allowing trojans to be installed worldwide. BTW if you are not secure you might even be a participant in the DOS attack without your knowledge.

Finding the offenders is quite some task but one route is to get hold of their slave program and trace back to incoming control commands.

THis whole situation points out how new policies need to be developed on an international basis for policing and prosecuting internet crimes.

Woody, thanks for the info. Still it amazes me that they weren't prepared for such an attack.
