Can we get a list of books that caved it to the DOS attackers?

Lander-
Wasn't WWTS attacked as well? Haven't heard a peep about them.
And what about WSEX, CRIS, OLY the big places?

I mention them, because they are the other BIG books in a similar league to Pinnacle.

Good point Java.

I haven't heard anything about these books either, the probably 'quietly' caved in.

I think we'll never know for sure. I suspect, though, that several books may have paid up immediately rather than going through the downtime, lost revenue and negative publicity.

Balls come in different sizes.

Joe-
Balls and bankrolls.

Lander-
It would make sense for the hackers to attack WWTS and others, but then stop and attack only Hollywood, Rio and Grande.

It's possible that WWTS (and the others) put up anti-DOS hardware after the first attack, but if that was the case, they probably would have announced it.

Pinnacle and the other books that gave in had to do what was best for them. I am sure these hackers like most hacking extortionist will honor their contract as promised

I'll bet when more books tell these guys to shove it they'll be back at Pinnacle again with more costs and a different deal

I'm always amazed at how successful extortionists can be. For about 10 years it was the norm for better restaurants and pubs in Budapest to pay extortion money. Starting entrepreneurs knew it was part of the deal and they calculated with it like a type of tax. Interestingly, they were able to cheat on taxes by not declaring most of the income etc. so in the end it evened out for them.

Government officials were paid off by the mafiosi to leave them alone, higher payoffs at higher levels, and the mafiosi provided better protection than the police. If the owner forgot to unlock the door at night, he wouldn't have much to worry about.

Ironically the system worked much the same as the American system, only the various de facto roles and payments were not officially part of the legal system, so the average naive voter got screwed. For the restauranteur it was a doable thing and for the mafiosi and politicians it was a great deal.

Today it's similar except the thugs represent actual security companies who charge exorbitant prices with an oligopoly to keep them that way, but at least they give a valid invoice and pay taxes, so the average Joe also gets a cut. But restaurant prices have gone up sharply so Joe has to give his cut back when he dines out, but at least it's Joe's choice now, unlike in the past.

Our modern world has come a long way from the pure principles handed down from the early inhabitants of our respective lands. It's a shame really and to get such reminders like these successful sportsbook extortions is quite depressing in my view.

I think someone's nuts are going to be hanging from a tree once this is all said and done, unless the police get them first.

I don't know who they think bankrolls a lot of these books, but it isn't Citibank or J.P. Morgan.

No, I don't think it was ever confirmed. I can't see any books admitting to being extorted - sort of opens the door to the next group.

So why the phuck are you saying that they did then in your first post ?

If you don't know something for a fact just shut up instead of setting yourself up to look like a fool.

The phucking reason I said what I said was because they experienced periods of 'unscheduled' downtime. Immediately after, other books were attacked and it was confirmed that some books paid the ranson.

If putting two and two together to conclude to four makes me look like a 'fool', then I suggest you simply ignore my posts. I didn't make anything up, I simply put the logical steps together and concluded at a likely results.

By all means, Hung, feel free to whine about it at Pepe's

Dicky you are wrong about them honoring their word. One book already paid $30k and then got hit with another $20k. The book paid twice.

You can't trust a thief.

Lander getting WU receipts of Pinnacle paying out to the hackers would be putting 2+2 together. All the other shit is pure speculation and I see it as trying to stir up shit.

As for your pepe's comment I post whenever and wherever I feel like it. I'm not a dog on any leash that can't stray too far away from home.

Keep up the good work here driving the posters away with comments like these
quote:
By all means, Hung, feel free to whine about it at Pepe's Heck, I'll mail you girls some kleenex's for Xmas this year

Hung,
C'mmon, you know me better than that - I could care less if somebody leaves because I called you girls girls.

It's not like I'm making this sh1t up, go to your little Bash RX circle jerk and search for 'Lander' ... my God, there must be 50 posts analysizing my posts.

Tell your friends Butchy & Altice I said, 'Hi Girls'. Oh, I'm glad you guys approved of my post to Oly .. I was worried that you might think I was out of line.

Gringo, Dicky's comment was meant to be 'tongue-in-cheek' - if you re-read it you'll see what I mean
