I guess most of you know Gamblers Ave is sponsoring the baseball playoff contest. If not just type in my name on a keyword search and you will find the thread.

Of course nothing official here, I just wanted to get some inside thoughts.

I live in Atlanta, I grew up in S. FLA thirty miles from the Braves Spring training complex. I was a Bravo fan when they lost 100 games a year. Their bats are killer this year and supporting the team. I don't think they will make it to the World Series; Other than Ortiz(CY Young?) their pitching is day to day (Maddux and Hampton) you never know what your gona get. Ramirez and Reynolds, every time they pitch I'm out; saved some money with this rule.

I don't know much about other teams, but the Braves have a 4 and 5 starter problem, and a huge mid-relieve problem. I hope they get lucky and pull it out, but my contest picks will not be with my heart.

Only thoughts from Jimmy Buffet's beach house on the Moon. G

Hey There Flaco,

The Fish have always given the Braves trouble.

Who do you think the two WS teams will be? G

There is not alot of difference between 1-8 this year...The Yanks and Braves (the two big name teams) are not even close to what they were 3 years ago...Anyone could win it...

I will go with the Giants and the omen surrounding them , Bonds running out of time, Bobby B dying, this is probably it for him...

I think the Braves have ENOUGH starting pitching to beat out the Cubs if they are indeed who step out of the NL Central. I think Hampton & Ortiz will be the reliable two in that rotation. Ortiz has proven himself in post-season play, and I just have confidence in Hampton. He's pitched consistently in the 2nd half, enough to warrant a #2 spot in the playoffs.

Maddux and that bullpen will be the key. If the Cubs get through, the Braves will advance to the NLCS, simply because the Cubs aren't any better in the starting rotation. They can rest one game on Prior, but even Prior got slapped around by the Braves this season.

Kerry Wood this, Kerry Wood that. BOttom line, his last 6 starts : Reds, Mets, Reds, Brewers, Cards, Cards.

walk. walk. fly out. c.jones homers to deep left. 3-0 Braves.

That could be what happens to Kerry come post-season. Their bullpen is not much better, and the BRaves have the edge at the closer role.

I think Braves would have the edge if they faced the Cubs, and then the Giants advance to the NLCS. But if the Marlins get past the Giants, I see the Marlins going to the World Series.

Complete toss-up!

Howver, and not saying this just because of my Bosox loyality(well, maybe a tad), but the following match-ups would be awesome for baseball.

REDSOX-BRAVES
REDSOX-CUBS
REDSOX-GIANTS

Not to mention a REDSOX-YANKS LCS!!

I agree the Braves may not make it.

Good breakdown on pitching Knockout.

I would love to see a Redsox - Giants LCS and agree it would be good for the game.

Although, FLA has a great opportunity to make history as a wild card again. If they can win it would be some tough history to match.

Personally I would like to see Barry B. get a ring before he retires. He was close last year and once with the Pirates; remember when he tried to throw out Sid Bream in the '93 NLCS?

Ahh, Friday afternoon!
