I still use it. when you log in, look at the bottom of the page, there are still hundreds of thousands at a time always using it. Actually, I think the only way they really bust people is just finding out someone is doing it locally, like hearing it by word of mouth, not by monitoring people on the computer. Kazaa is not going to release info about their users either, it's just those jerks way to try and scare people away from doing it.

Dante,

You are right..I heard the same thing and since I got the original lite, I have not upgraded due to the spyware issue..but..

I have spybot search and destroy, I run that puppy every so often, it gets rid of all those kind of cookies and files..its great! And it was free..if you go to Cnet and search for it, the thing is free.. I also have the majority of my files away from the shared folder, so I dont share that many..

Also, people pack crap in the files you download..so you get a bunch of junk when all you were wanting is Lemonade Stand or some awesome f/f video clips..

On top of being a spyware loaded piece of shit, Kazaa also spreads more viruses than any other peer to peer application. EVERY person that I know who has used it has had virus issues.

p.s. Ad Aware 6 is actually better than Spybot.

Agree TT ...

Using Kazaa may be one of the worst things a PC user can do with regards to exposing themselves to viruses and other security problems.

TT,

True.. I dont know if AdAware is free like Spybot or not, but Spybot is definately a cheap program..

I do have to say that after using other kinds of programs like Kazaa..I have used two others..both free.. Kazaa is still the best. I forget the names of the other ones..but one was Soooooo full of spyware and popup ad blockers, it took me a month to get rid of it all..also, the free sites have like 1,000 people in line to download a file..its a joke.

But I am going to stop using Kazaa..I downloaded a bunch of decent (non porn) movies and you cant get them on a DVD disk..they have to be split since the disks we have are not big enough and arent multi layered to fit all the content. And my DVD+RW has been a flop..I cant use it for anything..what a waste of money that was..

Ad aware 6 is free. Just do a quick search on google and you will find it. It finds about 90 spy ware crap every other day. Kazaa is probably responsible for most of that.

I use Kazaa lite all the time and never had any problems with viruses or spyware. Installed it and ran ad-aware once found a couple things that came off easily. Nothing since and nothing else close to that cluster-f*ck Gator.

I think the stuff you get off Download.com and other simillar sites have their spyware in what they offer to be honest. I went right to kazaas site to get my DL and I think that is why I have been trouble free

As far as that legislation goes I wouldn't be too worried. Unless you have like 10,000 files or more they could care less about you.

The only way the RIAA is going be able to go after you is if you share copyright'ed files for others to download. What they do is search for a cross section of songs and then download them to confirm authenticity of the file and then find all the other files you are sharing (which, in theory, mean that you have downloaded those songs in question).

Easy way around it, don't share popular copyrighted music...instead share porn, music vids, etc...

Does the RIAA have the burden to prove that you do not own a copy of the tracks in question?

yeah, you definitely need virus protection turned on, it will usually catch the virus before you finish downloading the file, unless it's a brand-new strain, but I've never been hit with one of those so far on Kazaa.

I use a not so well known application called shareaza.com

It does not have spyware but I suggest you do NOT share any songs with anyone, thats how the RIAA is targetting file-swappers
