the lower the amount on the table, the higher possibility of a bluff i think. but then again, im relatively new to poker.

If nobody is bluffing at the 25 nl table then you can safely assume that most of them cannot really afford to playing at that table. In my opinion good poker play is mixing it up a lot even if it means taking a small hit on a smaller hand to reel in someone on a bigger hand.If they are going to play down to the river they will have something worth while waiting for a showdown. Now maybe it is a case that you just have not called the person that is bluffing meaning they are a highly skiled bluffer. Hmmmmm food for thought....

Dante-

IMHO, at the lower limits there is hardly any bluffing. The bluffing begins at the higher limits and short handed play. Since you play at Party I'll relay my experience there:

3/6 - 5/10 (tons of play) - Very litle bluffing
10/20 (a few sessions) - A bit of bluffing not much though.
15/30 (more than a few sessions) - Significant amount of bluffing when 3 or fewer players in the pot.
5/10 short (more than a few sessions) - Significant amount of bluffing just like most short handed games.

Bluffing is an important tool in poker but with online limit games at low limits I agree that one sees little bluffing.

That said, one sometimes finds a chronic bluffer who will bluff at a pot on the river when their bet simply cannot make any sense. It seems that they think bluffing is a BIG part of the game. They will bluff frequently.

I rarely make pure bluffs and its hard to fold more that 2 players but sometimes, when there is no interest in the pot, I can fold 4 or 5 players on the river, but I usually have bottom or next pair or an ace so I might be bluffing with the best hand

.

Now semi-bluff raises on the flop to attempt to get a free card are fairly common. Seems most everyone knows this play.

In answer to the question 100% of players should be bluffing but it should be use rarely. Ideally a bluff is never shown. I will rarely bluff in any session after an exposed one.

rpm; will you play against me. seriously it's just the opposite. the higher the limit, the more the bluff works. just watch the poker championships on espn or the travel channel. those guys who got bluffed will be sick when watching themselves get bluffed on tape.

I find this to be true as well. Sometimes at the lower limits there is a guy/gal who will bluff at every pot, trying to buy it. Personally, I have trouble with these types since you basically must call these idiots all the way since they play/raise/bluff EVERY TIME they are in a pot. Last night I played with one such guy and he would bet and RAISE all the way to the river.

Example I'll never forget this hand....I have TT on a fairly tight table with the exception of 2 players. I'll call our buddy "Raiser." Raiser is one or two from the big blind and I'm two from the button.

Preflop - Raiser calls, all folded to me where I raise my TT. I have a pretty good table image and I want to be headsup with Raiser. The button respects me a ton and I expect her to fold but she calls and so do the blinds.

Flop - Flop comes 222...I'm in great shape. Small blind checks, Big blind checks, Raiser bets, I raise, button folds, small and big blinds fold, Raiser reraises (I know he has chit but HE could also have a two.) I think..I'm raising this mother fvcker all the way and I cap it.

Turn - 2....fvck me!!! My hand is chit now I've got to play one of the tens as a kicker and this ahole probably has a card higher than a 10. I proceed to yell in the chat box that the card is no good. Raiser bets, of course, I call. I'm probably beat but I'm calling this guy all the way.

River - Q....ok I'm probably back in the game we'll both end up playing the board unless he has a K or A. Raiser bets, I call.

Showdown - Raiser 94off, Swami TT

Had him beat all the way to the river. Two of the preflop callers curse Raiser since they folded an Ace to my raise after Raiser bet.

Anyway, "Raiser" was a chronic bluffer who bet/raised/capped EVERY hand he was in regardless of what he had. For the most part he was beating me but I did take him down a few hands and showed monsters but he just didn't care about prior history when his 94off was a perfectly good hand. SOMETIMES you find these types at low limits but it is certainly not common.

employ these strategies in limits lower than 5/10 or 10/20 and you lose. fine, maybe you won't lose but the strategies/tactics in that book are not nearly as effective at lower limits.

Most bluffling occurs in "no limit" games. I don't even try to bluff in a "fixed limit" game. The reason you can't bluff someone in a "fixed" game is that they know what they can lose, can't really bust a person. In a "no limit" game, it's had for someone to call a $1000 bet, especially in a tourney when it can mean being eliminated.

hey swami chill out man.
you weren't the somebody I was referring too.

I know the effects of playing vs folks that won't fold unless there is an earthquake or power outtage. Call them types ATM's.

I was more referring to the guy posting about how well the big bluff works. Another thing not in his books that works, is perisistently bluffing the same person, if you focus on one guy that you can bluff and bluff no one but him, it's pretty effective too.(talking out and out bluffs here, no got small part of flop advanatge bets or anything)
