Internet gambling can be addictive says Netaddiction.com

Netaddiction.com, which recently released a study disclosed that 'Net gaming' which covers the category of behaviors including obsessive online gambling, gaming, shopping or stock trading behaviors is a growing trend. Net gaming addiction also included computer addiction which is not interactive or caused by use of the Internet, but instead includes obsessive use of computer games such as Solitaire or Minesweeper. In the long-term this addiction is migrated online.


The website also said that cybersexual addiction, cyber-relational addiction and informational overload.


According to the Center for Online and Internet Addiction (COIA) online gambling can be an addiction. COIA says that men at the average age of 29 and women at the average age of 43 who have the vocational background of 'none' including homemakers, the disabled, retired persons or students make up the largest demographic of Internet addicts.


Ann Johnson, psychologist for University Counseling Services said, 'If you're going on gambling sites and call into work sick because you don't want to miss a gambling day, or if a teenager goes into their bedroom and is online for six to seven hours, there is a problem.'


The researchers have a word of advice - Anything that is disproportionately consuming of time and energy needs to be taken seriously - Balance is an important feature of life and this creates an imbalance.@@
