LONDON, England -- Former world heavyweight boxing champion Frank Bruno is reported to have been sectioned under Britain's mental health act.
Bruno, who lifted the WBC crown in 1995, is reported to have been battling depression after his split from his wife two years ago and had received treatment at a clinic in Essex, eastern England.
The Press Association said police officers assisted medics in removing the 41-year-old father of three.
The action to remove him from his home was taken under the terms of mental health laws, a source told the news agency.
Bruno had spoken recently of making a boxing comeback despite an eye injury which appeared to have ended his career.
Former boxer Barry McGuigan told ITV News: "A lot of fighters need counseling when their careers are over. Frank fits into that category, knowing the sort of guy that he is, the sensitive soul that he is.
"I know that he needed counseling, I know he's been having counseling, but it's almost happened too late for him."
A friend of Bruno, former boxer Kevin Lueshing, told PA: "He needs a bit of a rest, he just needs a bit of time to get himself back in order."
Bruno has been making a career in pantomimes after giving up boxing.
