Shrink has written a very interesting article -which is the lead story on the RX.com home page - asking if a large syndicate has stopped betting on the NFL. What do you think? Check it out www.theprescription.com

Very good article and very true. NFL is very hard to beat in the short term, let alone long term.

Why doesn't he just use Beantown's name? What's with all this secrecy? Like we won't know who it is when he says the best sportsbettor in the world.

Anyway good stuff as is been the norm of late. Been a long while since I've seen such a motivated Shrink. He's either helping a player in a dispute, starting up a free line servce, or writing articles about the off-shore world. He's even taking books down who he feels are on shaky ground these days. Not sure why but he's been the old Shrink again, an absolute pleasure to work with these last few months. Props are in order. Hell I'd probably say it even if I didn't work here.

they are still betting, as far as lack of line movement in the nfl, the pro #'s have always been more stable than college #'s

besides there are shops that give them first crack at numbers, before they post em...........didnt work for them last year in foots though

jjgold as i have said before either you are playing games or you are a cretin.

great article by shrink but it is still American centric in that it assumes the biggest sportsbettor in the world is BW ( i guess that is who he refers to ),

acw and i would both debate this -- note i would not make this claim for myself personally as sports betting is not "my thing".

however if you want to oppose my pick for tonights MNF game go to >>

http://www.betfair.com/

and i will try to cover your action.

well now, your quite welcome, son. A pleasure to meet some who understands for the true gambler, money is never an end in itself. It's simply a tool, as language is to thought."-The Cincinati Kid

a great quote and something that was always part of me,

not so many years ago i had a frenemy who won > US$10m in 6 mths and suicided broke about 18 mths later. he did not lose it all back so much as just throw it away like confetti.

another had also been a pro gambler all his life but if he won US50k in 3 mths he would manage to spend US$100K. also suicided 18 mths ago.

Didn't we talk about this before the season and people were saying there was no way in hell BW wouldn't be on football this year? I am too lazy to go look for it, but I know this was mentioned before and people couldn't fathom the thought.

I am still trying to figure out if the lack of movement, college and pro, is because of lack of moves by BW or because of all these weekends of books getting DOSed. What do you all figure is a bigger factor because no doubt both Saturday and Sunday there is less divergence in numbers and less movement overall than I can every remember for football.

The NFL betting market is very tough to beat nowadays. Too many wiseguy wannabees and not enough uneducated money. Plus, the linemakers do a much better job. Don't expect a lot of bets or high win percentage. My advise is to keep the status quo.

response from my man re increasing bet size in midst of 7-0 run ( before tonights game ). the line always moves but small c/f 5 yrs ago.

WB,

I think the phenomenon you are noticing has to be because of the proliferation of internet sports betting. It's really only in the last 3 years that the amount of internet betting has been significant compared to the total betting pool.

Books have realized that to stay alive their numbers MUST be similar to the others or they will get pounced on immediately. In the past the average bettor for the most part never found those soft numbers so the books could get away with hanging them. But now it's become much tougher so books have either figured out that this is the way to survive or else they have gone by the wayside.

All this free and instant information exchange makes things tougher for the books as well as the players IMO. The days are numbered for the guys who have employees hanging out at the various shops waiting for the phone call. Those guys are going online too with the high limits available at Pinnacle and a few other places. At least this is what I am sensing. I really have no inside information.

I don't think the attacks had much to do with it because it was only one or two books at a time that had the problem.

Mind you this only explains the long-term phenomenon. It doesn't explain why there has a been a big change from just last year. FWIW, all the comments I've heard (which agree with my own experience) about sports betting getting tougher etc. have all come in the last few months.
