Do you think some popular local bookies throughout the US have influenced the offshore gambling ban?

I know for a fact the the locals here have influence with the politicians. They are not big time bookies compared to bigger cities. I think the big city bookies would also have political influence. Has offshore gambling hurt the local business enough for the big city bookies to hint their support or suggestion for banning?

Thanks for your opinions

No!!!!

Around here politicians would love to lock up locals because anti gambling is a political winner in any community. The only people that care are the loser degenerates like us which make up a such miniscule portion of the population.

No, if anything, offshores(along with national security and drugs) have taken focus off them by locals and feds, and they will always have people that like credit-outs and local square-ups(no trails nor fees).

Gen, very interesting question-but in the big picture of things, I'd have to say no.

NY is NY....but the influence elsewhere is much less, if not non-existent.

Thanks. I ask because I know of a couple books around here who are not getting the business anymore of several players. More players going offshore. It is hurting them.

Your opinions are appreciated

GENERAL.........the person who prefers to wager offshore, is inclined to wager on types of bets the local does not offer, or has learned the concept of value..

IMo....the type of "square" that bets with a local generally bets only on

football
basketball
depending on region bases and hockey

1. side or total bets
2. parlays and teasers

doesnt care for prop bets, half-times, money-lines, reduced juice ect...
he likes things very simple, taking time to open an offshore account is too much effort, (actually its getting to the point that funding an account is quite a task)...

the offshore "square"

has discovered the "other" betting options...half-times, money-lines, generous baseball lines, ect..

the offshore square is more informed than the local square, he is more inclined to have several outs, uses a computer to keep current with line and injury changes....he does his homework when it comes to making a bet.....

when it comes to "public" action its a different market for the local and offshore books.........

now there is a type of customer that both local and offshore books can get........

the person who bets 5k or higher per position, this type of player frequently has credit with offshore spots....(in the future i can see more high-end players returning to local shops, because of the hassle of money transfers)but also have local outs......

local shops that have high-end customers, will go to great lengths to keep players happy.....

Imo.... basically speaking offshore and locals dont compete for the same type of customer....

now casino's..........thats a different story
