I thought I was quite familiar with the wagering lingo. Then first fidelity hits me with the "we do not accept co-related parlays...if you place and win a co-related parlay, it will be denied..."

Can someone explain what a "co-related" parlay is???

Lander,

I think you might be off on your example. Most places will let you parlay a side with a total.

A true example would be:

A two team parlay such as Lou-37- and Lou -18- in the first half. These two plays would be correlated in that you could actually win the whole bet in the first half. I know you could do the same in your example but putting a side with a total is allowed everywhere, I think. I know of a local that used to allow the following 4 team parlay on the same game:

1st half fave
1st half total
game fave
game total.

with this example you could actually win a 4 team parlay by just winning the 1st half bets.

He finally figured it out after paying off a few blowouts at 10-1.

Lander those aren't illegal, let me see if I can jinx my friend by showing some of his card. He loves those things, here's his card. He loves to take big dogs and parlay them with the under. Likes to root for a 28-0 game or something. I guess he feels if it is low scoring he has a chance to both cover and keep the total under. Of course he loses his ass every year but thats another story.....

PS - I just added those zeroes to add excitement, they are really only $26 to win $100.

That is $100 to win $260, right?
Some books (Pinnacle comes to mind) simply won't book correlated parlays. If the line is over 10 (+or-) they will refuse the parlay if it's teamed up with the total. Then again, books like Canbet say, BRING IT ON!(and I do)

when the spread is high, you have an advantage by parlaying the dog to the under, or the favorite to the over.

This is what I want to know: Let's say you bet a co-related parlay online, and you hit the parlay. Can the book come back and say: You bet a co-related paylay, and we are not paying you. I think this has happened before.

Most books will not have a problem with you betting a side and a total. A good example of a correlated parlay would be in bases, using the RL.

Padres +1.5
Padres U 8

or

Dodgers -1.5
Dodgers O 9

Most books, ours included, do not allow this type of wager. Hope that helps.

A correlated football parlay would be huge dog and the under, or a huge favorite to the over. The premise being that if the huge dog covers, there will not be enough points scored, and if the favorite covers, there will be enough points scored to push the total over. In baseball, normally you would take the dog to the under and the fav to the over. There are no sports books that I know of that will let you parlay the runline to the total of the same game

This wager was and is being used instead of scalping baseball
