Maybe, I'm showing how stupid I am here. My idea was that the overwhelming majority of posters to the RX (75% or more) were recreactional players and not "professionls". I use that word in the sense that although, you may be very good and have made some money, gambling is not your regular vocation.

Let's see how many respon to this thread.
Count me a recreactional player.

It is not wise to depend on gambling for your primary income. If you don't win that day, you and your kids don't eat.

ex--I totally AGREE with you. I asked this because Strut mentioned winning a large sum of money from Neteller. He is worried the IRS would get him in TRouble like the guy in North Dakota, who listed professional gambler or some such. For most of us it is recreation--but when I read some of the comments here-I start to get the idea--I'm the only rec. player here!

Isn't it evident that the books have a hold percentage for a reason?! Books are the only ones that have Gambling as their primary source of income. Can anybody prove me wrong?

I highly doubt that the professional gambler would feel comfortable posting that gambling is his number one source of income on a posting forum...

With this in mind, I believe that less than 2% of our posters fit this criteria...

Very few oldmantime & many who say they do will also have assistance along the way. Not many people at all just one day say I'm quitting my day job and gonna take my $10,000 401K and become a pro gambler. Alot already had plenty of money to live on or do not have many expenses to start with.

most posters with more testosterone than brains would like to think their primary source of income is gambling. I have done it for about a year or so and its bloody hard work. Made good money but the effort you have to put in is intense. My tip to anyone - don't kid yourself - log ALL your bets and have a betting bank - then see how well you're REALLY doing!!

Most clowns do not log bets at all and I find that so silly and if you don't why even bet???

Doesn't make sense.

if you are referring to the "North Dakota Whale" then that is what he is and he would have been scrupuosly honest about paying taxes on all gambling income including sums won in other countries and easily hidden.

moi on the other hand moved countries to avoid the tax hounds.

It’s rough- working on my goal to be a professional craps player lol..

there are pitfalls:

GETTING A MORTGAGE FOR PROFESSIONAL GAMBLERS Other considerations include whether you plan to get a mortgage for professional gamblers? if gambling is your sole source of income a mortgage company won’t touch you with a bargepole, even if you have shown consistent profits over many years. Simply put mortgage companies don’t like professional gamblers as it will bring in concerns of money laundering, consistency of income etc (even if you are a consistent winner the bank may still assume you have a gambling problem, also what happens if your country suddenly makes gambling illegal or taxes it heavily?). There are a few exceptions such as if you only need a small mortgage or if you go via a professional broker and have special circumstances, even then you may be relying on your partner to take on the mortgage in their name. Simply put if you are a professional gambler and what to buy some property, be prepared to pay for it in cash. Furthermore you may be required to prove your income, this is easily done via gambling statements

When I applied for a car loan at a big dealership they wouldn’t touch me on credit score and word alone. I showed them 3 years of tax returns......problem solved. Lol
