I just met, yet another old girlfriend, and we had a good night out and in if you know what i mean, and her cooking is still mean, as well as another -ing of her, and then she said she was going home and left a phone no. if i ever wanted to call her, and i appreciated that move, that no strings attached move, and it kinda of reminded me of that old elvis song i used to like....

Gentle On My Mind

It's knowin' that your door is always open
And your path is free to walk
That makes me tend to leave my sleeping bag
Rolled up and stashed behind your couch.
And it's knowing I'm not shackled
By forgotten words and bonds
And the ink stains that have dried upon some line
That keeps you in the backroads by the rivers of my memory
That keeps you ever gentle on my mind.

It's not clinging to the rocks and ivy planted
On their columns now that binds me.
Or something that somebody said because they thought
We fit together walkin'.
It's just knowing that the world will not be cursing or forgiving
When I walk along some railroad track and find
That you're moving on the backroads by the rivers of my memory
And for hours you're just gentle on my mind.

Though the wheat fields and the clothes lines
And the junkyards and the highways come between us.
And some other woman crying to her mother
'Cause she turned and I was gone.
I still might run in silence, tears of joy might stain my face
And a summer sun might burn me till I'm blind.
But not to where I cannot see you walkin' on the backroads
By the rivers flowing gentle on my mind.

I dip my cup of soup, back from the gurgling cracklin' cauldron
In some train yard
My beard a roughning coal pile and a dirty hat
Pulled low across my face.
Through cupped hands 'round a tin can
I pretend I hold you to my breast and find
That you're waving from the backroads by the rivers of my memory
Ever smilin' ever gentle on my mind.

good luck with your wagers guys....

I just came across this post and reminded me of what a great job that Elvis did with that son. That was actually recorded at the same Memphis sessions where he did "Suspicous Minds" and "Kentucky rain" to name a few.

Wil: dead on.

Lyrics from 'Every Grain of Sand' ...

In the time of my confession, in the hour of my deepest need
When the pool of tears beneath my feet flood every newborn seed
There's a dyin' voice within me reaching out somewhere,
Toiling in the danger and in the morals of despair.

Don't have the inclination to look back on any mistake,
Like Cain, I now behold this chain of events that I must break.
In the fury of the moment I can see the Master's hand
In every leaf that trembles, in every grain of sand.

Oh, the flowers of indulgence and the weeds of yesteryear,
Like criminals, they have choked the breath of conscience and good cheer.
The sun beat down upon the steps of time to light the way
To ease the pain of idleness and the memory of decay.

I gaze into the doorway of temptation's angry flame
And every time I pass that way I always hear my name.
Then onward in my journey I come to understand
That every hair is numbered like every grain of sand.

I have gone from rags to riches in the sorrow of the night
In the violence of a summer's dream, in the chill of a wintry light,
In the bitter dance of loneliness fading into space,
In the broken mirror of innocence on each forgotten face.

I hear the ancient footsteps like the motion of the sea
Sometimes I turn, there's someone there, other times it's only me.
I am hanging in the balance of the reality of man
Like every sparrow falling, like every grain of sand.

"Jack

Elvis, are you serious? Dylan much better for angst."

wil,

dylan is probably THE single artist who's record's i d take with me on the proverbial desert island, i got countless of them, stand out albums being desire, blood on the tracks, and changing of the guards. He is, as you rightly said the epitome of angst, but also wordplay, sense of adventure, etc. etc.

Top 16 dylan songs: (although that could change in the next hour or so)

You are going to make me lonesome when you go.
Oh sister
Tangled up in blue
One more cup of coffee
Visions of johanah
I want you
Make you feel my love
Where are you tonight
Changing of the quards
I shall be released
The jack of hearts (accoustic version)
Bronwnsville girl
Man in the long black coat
Simple twist of fate
One too many mornings (live version)
