A basketball legend received an honorary membership into a group of Green Bay Packers legends. It was part of a day-long event Wednesday celebrating the leadership of Coach Vince Lombardi.

The Lombardi Legends, heroes of the football field during the Lombardi era, bring what they know about leadership to the stage, trying to pass on the principles they learned professionally to people who want to use those lessons in their personal life.

Joining these gridiron heroes was a man known maybe more for his legendary outbursts on the side of a basketball court-- but who still has leadership one-liners to offer.

"If you always tell the truth, you never have to remember what... you said, so it's just a lot easier to be honest," coach Bob "Bobby" Knight said, paraphrasing Mark Twain.

The Lombardi Legends inducted Knight into their closeknit fraternity Wednesday night, with nothing but admiration for the coach they say is the epitome of leadership.

"If the standard of excellence in pro football is the Lombardi Trophy, then the standard of excellence in basketball is Bob Knight," Bob Skoronski said.

"He's the closest thing to Vince Lombardi I've ever seen, and I take that as the top compliment I could give anybody," said Max McGee.

Knight said, "It would be impossible for anyone to come into this group as an honorary member that would appreciate it more than I do."

The money raised from Wednesday's events goes toward the Lombardi Legends charity programs.
