Just got a check from a sportsbook via Fed Ex and it was opened by US Customs. Does anyone know what they do? I mean they open it up and see I'm receiving a check for a couple thousand. Do they write down my name and how much I'm getting paid? What is their reason for opening the fed ex? On the desciption, the sender just had documents listed. In the past, I have rarely received a Fed Ex that was opened by customs. I take it is a random thing. Just concerned more now due to Patriot Act etc..

I've looked into this quite a few times. Mainly because I am a cheapskate and was looking to get refunds from Fed-Ex. In my experience with the dozen or so times that this was either listed in the online exception comments, or I was directly told the customs story on the telephone, it has never been true. It is simply an untraceable excuse. If you have any doubts, ask Fed Ex for the customs documents, then you will will see some fast dancing.
