I heard something about Congress coming back a few days early to discuss Bush's Iraq requests. Does this imply that sill things like the "anti-gambling funding act" will get pushed through because there is more time? Or does this imply that they don't have time for less important issues (such as this)?

Or does it not imply anything at all.

Thanks.

I really don't know, but lets not forget that this isn't the only piece of spending the Senate faces. They haven't passed much of the budget and its theoretically due on October 1. On top of this there is sure to be some bluster on North Korea as well as more posturing about judges. Still congressional people find sneaky ways to get things through if they have no opposition. Right now there is a lot of opposition to the Kyl bill, but if modified and basically de-fanged it could come back up and pass quickly. Last motion by the committee I believe was to fashion the bill in a different format that handled the opposition.

Hey Bill,

Which senators are the ones on the fence with this issue? I'd like to write to a few of them... I realize lobying efforts of just some random guy aren't going to make much of a difference, but I think if a bunch of us wrote w/ a unified, strong argument, we may be able to persuade one or two.

Also, are any totally opposed to any form of this type of legislation? Would be good to know those as well!

Thanks for the response Bill.
Sounds like only time will tell on this one, but there certainly appears to be lots of hope for our side.

This is why I prefer gambling to politics - it's so much easier to cap

I am not sure who is on the fence. I know the Nevada senators are opposed and I am guessing New Jersey and maybe Mississippi people as well. For now the AGA is against the bill and that makes up the major and most important opposition. The racetracks are uncertain, they are probably first in line to get a carveout. Without a racetrack carveout you can call this thing as dead as can be, they won't pass it. If they carve out tracks and lottery, as is widely expected, expect the AGA to fight for the last carveout giving states rights. If everything is carved out, however, then a lot of supporters are vowing to fight it saying it will actually open the door for an expansion of online gaming. Its a silly mess and that is why I keep saying I don't think they will be able to pass anything that will do much more than make a statement and have neither teeth, nor real jurisdiction to do anything to stop this. Imagine the nerve of these guys if all they got was say no credit cards to be used and limited bank transfers. They would go and crow about how they protected families while all of us here would laugh our asses off saying "hey f***ers, we haven't used our credit cards in years!"

Thanks WildBill.

Hopefully our govt is more concerned with our marines getting shot daily moreso than some gambling.
