The Houston-Miami line opened at 14 and closed at 13.5. Doesn't that indicate that more money was bet on Houston than Miami by the players? If the answer is not necessarily, then how does one find out which side got more action?

If you remember correctly the Miami gamed opened at 10 three weeks ago went up to 14, tons of money early on Miami, very late little action on Houston made it drift down a half point!

OK jls that explains it partially, but doesn't a huge majority of the money come in on game day? As far as I know, the early lines come with small limits and the lines are very sensitive. So a half point move on the last day could easily indicate more money than a 4-point move in the period before the final week, or am I wrong?

Really don't think a half point at crunch time would dent a 4 point swing but maybe I'm wrong and you are correct. Would think the heavy hitters hit on 10 - 13 and once the line went to 14 the Majority of the action on that game went the other way!

After speaking with several sports books, I know for a fact that ALL of them won...

House beats Players in Week 1 and it wasn't that close!

Shrink,

Is there any way that someone with no insider information could tell (with only a rough amount of accuracy) which games are getting heavy one-sided action? If it has to do with watching line moves, is it simply the difference between opening vs. closing lines or is there something more to it?

Darryle at gametime Grande,Cris,Cascade, and about 5 more books went back to 14 on Miami.

Books really kicked ass this weekend.

"Mostly everyone that placed teasers used Miami-6.5 as a selection"

Darryl,
Usually the betting public will cause line changes. But be aware of syndicates that spread tons of money around all week to move a line one way then bet double the amount the other way on game day!

jls,

It's hard to imagine that any syndicate could have such a big influence, especially in NFL, the most heavily bet sport on the planet (on a per game average basis, that is...the world cup of soccer is huge but an average soccer match gets much less than an average NFL game). After all, the betting public consists of millions of people, so hundreds of millions (if not billions) of dollars gets bet on each game. Are there really syndicates that can make a sizeable dent into that!?
