In the latest ATP event in brazil, Delgado was leading Puerta by a set and 5-1. All over to all intents and purposes.
Then the rain started on monday night. Puerta hung around Tuesday and didn't get back on court, I can't blame him for pissing off home to Argentina last night. (Surely the event organisers should have put this game up first.)
This though means that my bet on Delgado with cris will be voided. This is the equivalent of an NFL match being abandoned in the last minute with one side leading 45 to 3, which would I believe not result in a void bet.
The new rules came in due to some suspicious "injury" withdrawals which cost some books dear. But if you are booking tennis you have to accept that some match fixing goes on in early rounds especially in corrupt countries - for example, a few Roumanians have produced career best wins this week in their home event. Even allowing for the home crowd these wins look odd to me.
So I suggest that action should be in force once the first set has been completed in a match. Very often in a two setter someone with a niggly injury will withdraw a set and a break down, in very few matches does a withdrawal take place by the leading player.
