Ages old baseball TRICK question......

Three old ladies decided to go watch their beloved Cubs play a game. To make it interesting they picked up a bottle of Jack Daniels for the game. They would buy cokes and mix their whiskey in, they were having a grand old time. As the game went on they continued on with this and started feeling no pain. Finally after ordering up a couple of cokes later on one of the ladies SCREAMED we are out whiskey!

Question: What inning is it and how many are on base?

Ok, I'll bite. I am embarassed to say it, but I don't get the joke fully. I know I am not the sharpest cookie in the world, but can I just ask one question pls...

How are we supposed to know it's the bottom of the 5th? I get the bags are loaded part, but how'd you get the bottom of the 5th??

Sick Claude:

You're forgiven on this one. In Canada bottles are sold in liter measurements.

In the US, a standard bottle of liquor is 1/5th of a quart, therefore the expression for a normal full sized bottle of liquor is "A Fifth".

Bottom or end of the 5th is a play on words.

Thank you Mr Joey, I don't feel as stupid anymore.. Man, I sat there for hours last night in bed thinking of this joke, and wondering why I don't get it. I felt so dumb, but I indeed have never heard of that expression of a fifth..
