BoDog offers odds on first new network show to get axe
BoDog Sportsbook & Casino™ has made Whoopi Goldberg's new sitcom on NBC, Whoopi, the odds-on favorite to be the first new television program cancelled this season.
“The whole concept behind the show seems rather run-of-the-mill,” said Rob Gillespie, President of BoDog Sportsbook & Casino. “Viewers today want something different, something that hasn't been done before.”
Whoopi is listed at 8/1, just ahead of Luis, a FOX offering, and Hope and Faith, starring Kelly Ripa on ABC, which are both listed at 10/1.
'Is America really ready for a double dose of Kelly Ripa?,' joked Gillespie. 'Five hours a week might be beyond the tolerance level. We all know what happened with Regis-fatigue.'
The long shots in the crowd are the productions featuring some of the bigger names in Hollywood.
Jerry Bruckheimer's Skin and The Lyon's Den, starring Rob Lowe are both listed at 75/1 and the Fox Network's latest attempt at controlling the 18-28 crowd, The O.C., is 60/1.
'Bruckheimer seems to have the Midas touch with his television endeavors,' said Gillespie. 'And Rob Lowe proved on West Wing that he's more than capable of being a force on the small screen.'
The O.C., which debuted in August, was given special consideration by BoDog's bookmakers.
'FOX is really hyping this one and really pushing it,' said Gillespie. 'It's airing twice a week and they're making sure that the 90201 demographic is well aware of this show. If it does fail, it won't be due to a lack of trying on the networks part.'
In total BoDog listed 25 shows that will all premiere, or have premiered already, on CBS, ABC, NBC and FOX for the Fall season.
