If you bring a bankroll of $2,500.00 to Vegas, what should be your average bet in blackjack? Average come bet in craps?

What you describe above is why I don't enjoy playing blackjack unless it's just with the dealer!!

Figure out much you are willing to lose and how long you are going to play.

Any talk of "optimal betting amount" only applies to when you have an advantage. Your optimal betting amount when you are at a disadvantage (such as most situations in a casino ) is $0.

So basically, figure out how much guts you have and how long you want your bankroll to last, and go from there.

I would imagine that you would want enough banroll for 50-100 bets, that should keep you in the game for awhile. So in that case, $25-50 would be appropriate.

good luck. hope you do better than I usually do.

Depends how long you want to stay. Except in rare circumstances you are taking the worst of it so the longer you plan to stay the smaller you should bet. If you are there for the night or two bet $50 a hand, if you are there for a week bet $10 a hand and bring your VISA card.

Here is how I would think about it. About how badly would you have to run where you would just get disgusted and quit. Well I admit some people never want to quit, but a rational person would say "screw it, it ain't my weekend". If that is say losing 25 units at the BJ tables and 25 units at the craps tables, there you go. Divide it by 50.

As for the worries about who plays with you, forget about it. That is just wanting to come up with an excuse for your bad luck instead of just bad luck by itself. A few days ago I was at a casino and playing a little BJ while waiting for some friends as they got ready in their hotel room. There was a guy there from Europe, not sure which country. He had a horrendous accent and worse understand of BJ! The guy kept saying "I wan't to double down". The dealer would then turn over the cards and the guy would have 20! First two times it happened I burst out laughing at the fool. Third time I was like get a clue buddy. This guy claimed he didn't understand the dealer's instructions and he did stupid things all the time. If he didn't have 3 clueless family member women betting as much as him (badly but at least understanding the basics) I might have thought maybe he was an angle shooter. One hand he put his cards under his bet (single deck game) and the dealer turns over 20. He complains she didn't offer him a chance to hit. He has a total of 9. The pit boss tells the dealer treat it as a push and then lectures the guy. Where does it all lead? Well he has a hand later where he hits and gets a 2, then stands. Dealer was showing a 10, turns over a 6, then hits and gets a 10 for a bust. Then going around to pay people off, turns over the "dummy" hand and he had an 18!!! He hit 18 and caught a deuce and when the dealer would have busted. I had 17, the other two remaining players had 18. So we all pretty much lucked out thanks to this horrendous play. It doesn't always go against you. I just got tired of the delays and how the dealer felt compelled to make him show his cards before he made a decision, so I left a few hands later, but up 5 units.

I have quit arguing this point long ago about "bad players" costing others money by playing blackjack poorly. Just like dice rolling off the table being a 7 the next roll and tipping the BJ dealer ensures better cards it is not based in fact IMO. The person at first base making an idiotic play is just as likely to help you as it is to hurt you. The difference is you remember the hands where it cost you but forget quickly the hands where it helped you. Same with the dice going off the table. If someone shouts "watch this next roll be a 7" and it is a 7 than it will leave a lasting impression. People will think darn that happens every time it seems! The other 5 rolls where it is not a 7 is quickly forgotten as you are collecting on your bets. I think it's called selective reinforcement? Dice go off the table the next roll is 6-1 against a 7, dummy plays idiotic cards in BJ it is 50/50 on whether or not it helps or hurts you.

Amen, McIrish, I've been preaching that for years...but people don't listen to common sense. They only remember the times they get screwed...another thing they never consider is that when a few extra cards are played on a "bad" move, the following hands will also be affected for all players. Even if it hurts you immediately, you might be catching better hands the rest of the deck/shoe and never give credit to the player that caused that to happen. All you can do is play correctly, and the actions of other players will even out.

Another misconception is when someone walks up to a roulette table and considers players. They watch the ball spin and then drop in one of their numbers (or red/black, odd/even, whatever they were thinking of betting). They immediately curse their bad luck...but in reality, if they had given their money to the dealer and gotten their chips, the wheel would have been spinning at the same time and the dealer wouldn't have thrown the ball at the exact same time (and the wheel is also decelerating slightly, too, so there's a lot of physical factors that are different) so that spin never would have existed. You can't assume the same number would come up if you bet it.

You don't tell us whether you plan to lose the whole bankroll and how long you plan to stay.

With a $2500 bankroll the maximum bet a winning blackjack counter would likely make is $50 when the cards strongly favour the player.

There are no professional craps players.

I think the guy isn't expecting to play a positive EV game, he just wants an idea of how to size to avoid ruin over a short time. If you give yourself 50 units over a weekend and stick to BJ (with basic strategy) and pass/come bets on the craps table its highly unlikely you will lose all 50 units. If you stick to just those bets you figure to lose about 1/3 to 1/2 a unit per hour of play, unless you play BJ heads up, but on a weekend that is next to impossible to do. So if you average about 5 hours of play a day the expected loss is less than 10 units.

Why does the play of one player, particularly at third base, affect your hand in anyway?

For everytime that everyone at the table proclaims "you idiot, you took the dealer's bust card"... there is an equal number of times that player took a card that would've helped the dealer, thereby saving your hand.
