I have mixed opinions about HDTV..i've had it for over a year now...Quality is amazing..the color and picture is almost too good that it's mesmarizing...I find myself personally unable to watch some games because its almost so colorful and detailed that i am staring at people in the crowd and the grass etc... i would recommend that you deffinitely make sure you have a wide screen HDTV because a 4:3 tube shrinks the picture and the top borders get cutoff...also sometimes there are not enough camera angles that offer HDTV so the telecast isnt always great...if you have sattelite its better then digital cable system as with mine i have to switch video feeds between hdtv and regular tv, which is really annoying....overall its pretty good, but really hasnt been perfected just yet...its almost worth waiting a year for the technology to be updated..but depending on your budget and the reason for buying your TV it could be worth it

benstern,

I've had my HDTV almost two years now, and I am very pleased with it. I agree with agreeen

about getting the widescreen instead of the conventional 4x3. It will also come in handy if you watch a lot of DVD's because it will allow you to buy or rent the widescreen version instead of being stuck with the fullscreen version that cuts off 33% of the picture.

In case you didn't know, there will be 3 NFL games broadcast in HD EVERY week! ESPN's sunday night game, MNF, and CBS's main game on Sundays available regionally or included for free with a Sunday Ticket subscription. The games so far this preseason have looked awesome. Every game ESPN and ABC have done have been in HD with the exception of the American bowl game overseas.

You will need either a Directv HD sat receiver that doubles as an OTA digital tuner, or a cable HD receiver.
