Somewhere along the line, this forum turned into a referendum on whether World Sports Exchange should pay out on a largish soccer bet. But the fact is that the bet was not in dispute. We booked the bet and even though it was placed under extremely dubious circumstances, we honor all bets that we book. Tempting as it seems, we never take “reverse shots” at players, and while we made every effort to void these bets, we were unable to issue official cancellation slips before the match began.

We were hoping to handle this matter the way we’ve handled every other (thankfully rare) player dispute we’ve had in the past: person to person. Usually we reach a friendly settlement. If both parties accept that there is such a thing as the “spirit of a wager,” then it’s remarkable how easy disputes are to settle. But once in a while, a player just won’t budge, and in those cases we simply pay the full amount in question and shut the door to any future action from that player.

This is exactly the position we were facing with revere12 and the beard account who placed these wagers, since he (or they) refused to speak to us. To confuse matters more, all the contact information they’d given us was false; their Neteller accounts had been closed for suspicious activity, and they had left a trail of willfully misleading identities and beards, so it became more an issue of who we could pay rather than whether we should pay.

We’ve finally just received a phone call from these upstanding gentlemen, and are hopeful that we can wash our hands of the matter. Overall, I find this situation ironic, since World Sports Exchange is one of the few completely transparent sports books in operation. I use my real name, Haden Ware, and I put that name on the line with every bet we take. If only more of our customers would do the same . . .

You tried to get out of paying, and he brought it to the forum. You realized the negative publicity generated would cost you more than the $40,000 you tried to rob him of. That is when, and only when you decided to pay him.

If you have graded his wagers as winners in the first place I guarantee you he would not have complained on this forum.

What difference does it make what his name is. He made the bets with real cash. You tried to scam him and hoped he would just say " well OK". It didnt work, nice try though.

Haden,
I came here with a "Past Post" issue a month ago and being brand new to online betting ,had this occurrence happen quite innocently on my part. My wager in question was placed with integrity but to my surprise due to "a computer glitch" on THEIR end as they put it, was just past post.
I have to commend you and your book here as you certainly handled this with honour. I bet through Virtualbookmaker.com and am now very aware that there is a WIDE gap between good and bad. You sir, ADDRESSED the issue, followed up with the proper calls, and made a great business decision. THEY however, made their snap decision, blamed their software, argued that I was a crook, closed my account that day then and refused to return any of my subsequent calls.(and we are only talking $3000 - not $40K!!!!) AND thye still haven't sent the funds from my account to me OR returned any mesages concerning it. (Bruce ,you are one step from being a thief)
You think that they even CONSIDERED meeting in between?? NO WAY!
In short, I think that Virtual can learn a great deal from your company- you had your rules etc BUT you made a decision based on what made sense from the situation. I hope you enjoy continued success.

Haden, classy classy stuff.

But I think where the confusion came in is when wsexsteve was in here initially saying that the wagers were cancelled before the match and then later saying that while they were officially cancelled post-match they had good reasons for it, implying that he could still void them. Those posts left the appearance (apparently wrongly so) that honoring the bets was up in the air.

In any case, you made one good decision and I think we all hope that your next good decision is going to be upgrading your software and clarifying your wagering maximums.

Best of luck Haden.

Haden,
Has WSEX ever went into an account and cancelled wagers before the start of an event? Was it possible in this situation?

good post mr. ware, glad it has been worked out.

two quick questions:

you say you took the bets and had every inclination to honer them. then the next sentence you say that you tried to cancel the bets prior to the start time. that is a little confusing, which one is it?....also, is he still allowed to bet there and if so, have his limits been cut?

Mr Muny signed up 5 minutes ago just so that she/he could reply to Hadens topic! I wonder if Mr Muny is one of the girls at WSEX! Tracy, I think you're cute!
