Some people here think that my actions were questionable. I have been a respected poster here for almost 2 years and I try to contribute to the site. I may be a sharp player but I was not trying to pull a fast one on anyone especially in this case. I made wagers on a legitimate line and they were accepted. I did not violate any rules on their site, nor did I exceed any clear limits on wagering amounts. The book admits they did not cancel my wagers until after the match was over.

Ironically, I asked books to CLARIFY their limit policies a YEAR ago:

http://www.majorwager.com/fusetalk/messageview.cfm?catid=22&threadid=30990&highlight_key=y#268411

I have never asked a book to refund my losing wagers because I went over the limit, and in this case -- no one knows that there even WAS a limit! Steve himself said he wasn’t sure how much to allow me to bet. Even so, if they had just cancelled the wagers BEFORE the match began, I would have very well understood because it was a large bet on a sport they don’t focus on.

Why the bizarre betting pattern? I HAD to place the bets with different amounts. Their software wont let you place the same bet twice in a row and Jay Cohen even TELLS people how to use the exact same method I used to place the bets. If it took me 2 hours or 2 minutes they were obviously aware of this method since the beginning and it was not taking advantage of a mechanical error. Did I exceed the limit? THERE WAS NO LIMIT!!!!

As for my personal information, if my number changes, is updating my WSEX account really the first thing I am concerned about? One thing is for sure and that is that my contact information has not been updated since December and if I had been planning this all along as a way to scam the book and thought ahead that they would not be able to contact me I would have been making a LOT of assumptions – such as the fact that they wouldn’t just cancel the wagers anyway regardless of whether my phone number worked.

If that isn't enough, lets face it, the nature of this business is shady. The last thing I want is to be in jail next to Jay Cohen. I am sure I am not the only person who is discreet with their personal information.

Steve could strengthen his case if he could show logs or some other computer evidence that the wagers were indeed cancelled before the match, as his first response says. Emails saying, “We are only honoring $500 of your Manchester United wagers” would help. Phone records showing the number on file was at least attempted before the match began. I am not calling Steve a liar but he was grossly negligent in his job at BEST.

Please keep this thread focused on MY INTEGRITY.

Fine.

Question 1: have you ever bet $40K on ANY sporting event over the internet before, much less soccer?

Question 2: Why didn't you call to confirm the bets that you placed over a period of a couple of hours would stand?

Question 3: What led you to put so much money down on a single game?

Question 4: was your contact info valid?

Question 5: I have got to assume you have other books - did you also bet at those books on the same or different team?

Question 6: If you don't have other books, then you apparently wagered your entire bankroll on a single game - yes or no?

I don't like them cancelling your wagers after the fact, but there's no way with what I know currently I have much sympathy for your case - you certainly seem to have tried to weasel your way into these bets, and I would bet anyone wagering that kind of cash would either have had to have inside knowlege or much more likely was scalping or middling - if the second, it has to be the dumbest thing I've ever heard of, scalping that much money without knowing for a certainty the book would honor those wagers and if you did, then of course you lost the offset amounts at the other books and you must be hurtin' right now.

Jazz,
No offense, but your questions are irrelevant.

It doesn't matter what his intentions were, good or bad. The onus was on the bookmaker to cancel prior to the event.

This is not a gray area.

Have you really been a respected poster around here? I am not sure that is an accurate statement.

But I do side with you and my posts in main thread about this problem has been the most unbiased from anyone's point of view that i have read.

You should be paid out $34,500 minus the $600 that they already paid you! You cant have all of hte bets at the +120 and you KNOW THAT in your heart. So just accept the $34,500 and leave!

Why have you not contacted Shrink about this problem yet?? You are really starting to lose ALL credibility here and you are hurting yourself with other sportsbooks as a WHOLE bunch of them now know who you are!

Just accept the nice profit of $34,500 and RUN!

Lou- Actually Jazz's questions are very relevant.

Revere- I'm not questioning you integrity, only your sanity. You could have gotten down the whole 40 dimes at the +120 in about 2 minutes if you were dealing with real sportsbooks. I played the over in the game but I liked the Manchester United side a bit. I thought the +120 was good value but passed on it because I liked the over 2 1/2 better. If you're betting this kind of money, why would you deal with WSEX?

Everyone can read Lou Diamond's post and have an entire synopsis of this incident. Let me echo:
1)He RISKED his post up 2)Limits were VAGUE, at best. For an addendum to this point, please see AITON's post quoting JCohen across the street. 3) Wagers were not cancelled until after the event. Even if management could not get in touch they should have cancelled the wager before hand 4) the price paid was in line with the market.

Everyone defending the shop is doing nothing more than rationalizing. Intent means SHIT here. No rules were broken. This is as black and white as it gets folks. If you dont understand, please see #1 and think about what would have happened if the side had lost.

No, there are others who feel this way, but it is getting redundant posting on this issue. Where there is smoke there is fire, most likely this guy will go away and hide or his real story will come out.

DW, I see you are still standing up for whats right. Good to see.

Revere, I'm still on your side, but just let it go.You're not getting anywhere despite, in my opinion, the case weighing heavily in your favor. The book in question still only has one excuse and defense, that it tried to contact you, which means absolutely nothing becasue it's already been proven they didnt cancel anyhow until the outcome was decided. The only thing happening now is, they are trying to dig up other things against you that has absolutely nothing to do with this particular event. Put it this way, if this was a case in court, your outstanding evidence against theirs easily wins you the case. Unfortunately, it has to be settled differently, in ways that you can't even possibly challenge. Just take what they offer, if anything, and move on to another book.

You have little integrity Revere14. After betting 40 dimes over the max by placing 100 different size wagers when did you realize something was not right when the line did not move? After the first bet? Maybe the 2nd? Definitely after the 3rd? Thats all you should be paid, $1800 max. If don't like it bet somewhere else you greedy bastard.
