I believe I recall seeing there were 8 states with laws prohibiting online play. Can anyone tell me what US states have laws on the books regarding online play?

quote:
Utah and Hawaii ban all forms of gambling, including offline and online sources. Other states such as Michigan, Louisiana, South Dakota, Illinois and Oregon have specific bans on Internet gambling. And still others such as Nevada and New Jersey ban forms of gambling not approved by the state, and that could cover Internet gambling.

Keep in mind that they popped that guy in North Dakota recently....and they apparently aren't on the "official" list.

Yet so far I've seen rumors of laws in over 10 states. I can not seem to find a definitive answer. Any help I can get finding out would be much appreciated.

We also need to very clear.......illegal for whom? The online bookmaker? The bettor? Both? New Jersey may have passed legislation that covers internet gambling but, to my knowledge, there is nothing that criminalises the act of placing a bet

Let's all hope that our Uncle Sam doesn't take care of this for ALL states in the upcoming session.

Florida.........There is a law in Florida for everything! Except their rigged lottery and scratch~offs you cant even win on anymore. Eveyone I ever speak to, that buys scratch~offs, has the same story. First it started with the $1 scratch~off's, then the $2, then the $5, now $10. You can win a little at first on them, but then slowly but surely, they make them virtually impossible to win off of. You know, kind of like the Big~Grab bags of Doritos shrinkage over the years!!!

Not so sure it's illegal in Indiana. I wrote my Senator last year and told him I was an online gambler. He never mentioned it being illegal.

Dave, Washington?

If you mean Washington State, I have never heard that before...

To my knowledge Nevada is the only clear one on the books, the rest are purposefully ambiguous so they can prosecute you when they feel like it. Basically that includes any time you piss off the authorities and they can't get you on other charges. Then they get judges to grossly overexaggerate the law and next thing you know, you have Jay Cohen!

In Maryland, you can't win any prizes in out of state contests like fantasy football for Espn, sportsline, etc......i'm not sure what else applies.

Lander, he at first thought it was the IRS but now he thinks it was his bank, Wells Fargo. Another bettor across the river in MN was arrested on the same day in a sort of joint operation (in case they knew each other and might try to warn the other). The MN bettor also banked at Wells Fargo.

Bye the way, the MN bettor must have had something else going on besides just betting, because Trauman says they are seizing his assets.
