Dutch Boyd-Phenom Poker player?

What's the story on this kid? Watched some WSOP highlights and they profiled this kid. He's about 22 or 23 years old and supposedly entered college (don't know what college) at age 12 and graduated law school (don't know which law school) by age 18. Anyone know anything on him. He supposedly runs a poker crew he bankrolls in tournaments. Sounds to good to be true or maybe his life as surreal as it seems might make a good movie. He placed 12th at the WSOP and took him $80,000.

I don't know anything of him other than what I saw but he sure made a bad decision on a couple of hands. Especially the one that almost knocked him out. I know it's easy to say when you see their cards but I don't rate his play real high overall, at least by Vegas professional standards. He had a great chip position and he made some bad choices in relation to where he was IMO. You don't have to gamble and put so many checks at risk in the shape he was in.

Pretty good with the chip tricks though. I could never do the one where you pass it through your fingers down your hand, LOL.

There is a friend of his who is 24 by the name of Antonio Esfandiari. They call him "the magician" and his chip tricks are totally beyond belief. That's probably where he picked up the tricks.

When you sit there long hours you do learn some tricks but nothing like they know, at least in my case. I can do the one where you hold 3 and drop one down, turn it around and reinsert it. They showed Boyd doing it during the program, it's nothing special as just about all players can do it. Anyway would love to see your friends tricks. Some of them take a lot of work.

What you say is true about being easy to critisize when seeing the cards. However, I did think Lederer laid down an awful lot of winning hands. To reach the final 9 you have to not only play well but be extremely lucky. How can Moneymaker make that call w/pocket treys? To me that was the turning point of the tourney! There are probably a 1000 guys all around the country as good as any in LV they just never get that far for a variety of reasons. I personally played w/a guy in the service off and on for 5 yrs who was as good or better than most.

Silver - no doubt about it on Moneymaker. That call plus the one he made against Roberto with pocket 8's?? I mean the board had something like K-9-2 and his opponent had pocket aces. I don't call after the flop in a limit game, he sent his whole stack in!!? Of course he doesn't know the guy has aces but what hand you can beat? Nothing other than a bluff and you only have 2 outs to improve your hand if you are beat at that point. When the 8 showed up on the turn it was clear to see the cards were running for him.

I tell you what the guys who won it the last 2 years are nothing special when it comes to cards. I guess with so many entries you will see more and more "dead money" take all the money.

To win a championship with over 800 players in it you have to be lucky. The last two players went well past being just lucky. They were blessed to be able to win it. I'm sure the locals were hoping they'd stick around and play in some of those $100,000 buy in games at the Bellagio.

Russ "Dutch" Boyd is a thief. As CEO of pokerspot.com, and online poker site, Russ stole about $400,000 from his players. The site was in operation from roughly the summer of 2000 to the summer of 2001, and around January people started receiving excuses about why they weren't being paid, some checks bounced, etc. I personally was owed $5,000 from Pokerspot, and after being told my "check was in the mail" twice, it never came. Russ laid low for a while and has now re-emerged in the poker scene, bankrolling himself and other players on stolen money.

It amazes me that more people don't know about the Pokerspot debacle, but I guess there are a lot of poker players who've never played online or are relatively new to poker. As one of Russ's victims, I'd appreciate it if you'd spread the word about him as you would about any stiff sportsbook. Supposedly Russ has been wearing clothing with the logo of a new, as of yet unopened poker site.

That is some news about Boyd. I have wondered about some of the multitude of online casino type operations that are popping up, easy to get screwed if you are not careful. I watched Boyd in the WSOP and he was super hyper and amatuerish. Say what you want about Moneymaker so far he has kept his cool. Tuesday Night is the final (I know it is taped) on ESPN.

I've heard the same thing, thus the open ended question. I want to know if this guy is a genius (as he claims) and verify the college and law school or is that bs too. Sometimes you can be a genius and criminal mastermind too, but when it comes to online gaming which this forum is a watchdog site, it would be nice to hear from others that know of him to spread the word. I've heard that he does bankroll a crew of guys that go to poker tournaments. Where that bankroll came from I guess is the real question. Thanks for your post.

As far as Moneymaker is concerned I had never heard of him before the WSOP and know nothing other than what has been telecast by ESPN. Same thing with Boyd. Sounds like you know a lot more than I do. My only comment is he stays pretty calm in the pressure of the final table at WSOP.
