i find myself wondering how people would suggest the rx handle player disputes and complaints about sportsbooks when they are posted on the forums.

in a perfect world, we could just leave the posts in offshore and try to get things worked out.

however our world is far from perfect.

i can think of several occasions where the rx has left posts up, that ended up being total lies and scams, and basically made the rx look bad for letting some lowlife attack or take a shot at a book for no reason at all.

vega vs. olympic and hamnscam vs. sportbet/ibetcasino stand out as two of the most embarassing posts we left up.

the bottom line is, if the rx were to create a set in stone policy of how to handle these things, what would you suggest?

RPM.......imo.....there is no perfect way....

1. post the complaint
2. get all pertinant facts from player
3. notify sportsbook in question that a customer has posted a complaint at THERX.
4. let sportsbook reply
5. after all parties have responded, THERX should then comment on the situation.

the vega/oly deal, hurt some feelings, Oly got offended because their reputation is steller (and deservedly) and they cant do no wrong......but what if vega would have named a lesser known book??? i bet that thread would still be going..

imo...you guys are doing the best you can on player/book issues
but its very important to refrain from comments until ALL PARTIES AND FACTS are on the table....

in other words dont be so quick to flame a book or player..without knowing everyting that happened..

RPM.........I do think threads that are strictly rumour..ie. i have good info that such and such book is having cash flow problems..

i think those threads do the most harm to books (royal) if they are proven to be false..

now im not saying those type of threads should be deleted on the contrary they should be left up, so the book in question can respond..

THERX should handle these type of threads with the utmost care.....maybe locking the thread and giving the book in question time to respond....if they dont give a reply in a timely matter....open the thread for debate..

big differance between a book actually slow-paying/stiffing
as opposed to rumours.....

RPM,

I would leave the thread up and let it go through the whole process as dimes said. Then if it's all been resolved and turns out the player's claims were false, go back to his original post and add a line which is clearly marked as written by a moderator which goes something like "this claim has later been proven to be unfounded...see further discussion at the following link..."

If the title of the thread makes a false claim against the book, then edit that too, not by deleting anything, but by adding something like "(refuted - RPM)"

This way the original poster doesn't get his free speech rights violated and the book is protected from slander.

The best way for a mod to exercise his authority is by adding, not deleting text. The only exception may be extreme rudeness or vulgarity...and even then a move to the rubber room may be better than a complete deletion.

The order of preference for a mod should be, therefore:

1. Add text, clearly labeling it as mod's words
2. Moving a post to another room
3. Deleting a post

Just my thoughts, hope they are helpful.

daryl,

some really good advice there. thank you for the feedback.

btw, regarding deleting posts, if we delete something, we have a copy of it somewhere. very rare for us to delete something though. generally we tend to send to another more proper forum.

ITS STRANGE THAT SO FEW PEOPLE SPOKE UP HERE.

everyone seems to have an opinion about how this stuff should be handled when its actually going on.

RPM,

You are right. I think it shows that most people live for the moment only and give little consideration for the future. Talking about this stuff affects nothing in the immediate term, but has a decent impact later on. It's a bit sad that people are like that IMO but we gotta accept it I suppose.

darryl,

fwiw, i really liked some of the ideas in your post, and im going to try to get some type of policy in place here for how these things are handled.

i also really liked dimesplayers suggestion about letting the post stand, but locking it until the sportbook in question has an opportunity to respond.

RPM,

Glad to hear it. I enjoy commenting on mod issues, especially the not-so-straightforward stuff.
