FARGO, N.D. -- A former Harwood man has pleaded guilty to placing sports bets over the Internet, in what one gambling law specialist says is a rare case.

Jeffrey Trauman pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor charge in East Central District Court in Fargo on Monday. Judge Norman Backes gave him a one-year deferred sentence and fined him $500.

I. Nelson Rose, a professor at Whittier Law School in California who has studied gambling law for 23 years, said about half the states still have laws against gambling.

The North Dakota attorney general's office said it began investigating Trauman last spring, after receiving a tip.

Trauman, who currently lives in Kentucky, declined comment.

Yes, No, Maybe??

This is the first instance I have heard of an online player being arrested and fined so I am very interested on what this is all about.

Better try to keep friends and not enemies if you are doing something illegal. With the legislation, local law enforcement may try to look like heros by nabbing a few.

Snitches will usually be the cause.

Keep your business to yourself.

General and anyone: IF Congress passes an a law that says the ACT of placing am online wager is illegal, they will have MANY ways to find out WHO is doing it. Besides, the very simply ways of checking accts, WU records, etc; the first t way that comes to mind would be to get records from places like the RX, which show that UNIQUE computer address #. (That in itself may not be actual proof, but would make for EASY pickings to FIND folks). So, as much as I love this website, I think the readership will drop significantly IF Congress passes an act punishing the player!)

If I won the Big One, I'd email a link to the thread or threads documenting it from start to finish to every legal controlling authority in the United States. I'd tell those MF'ers to bring it on!

He admitted he was making it up. I found out there isn't even a State Attorney's Office in Flint. Believe you me, if what he was saying were true I would have been taken away in handcuffs early this week after what I've done.
