Anyone know if online soccer betting exceeds American football in terms of total dollars wagered? Does it generate much revenue for any of the popular sportsbooks?

I don't know where some of the numbers in that thread came from, dubious origin comes to mind.

One correction,

$15bill bet LEGALLY alone on US racing in 2002,
estimates are that an equal sum is bet illegally,

which would be $30Bill USD bet annually on US horse racing.

You would have to ask the European books about that, but I doubt it. The off-shore books take some big action during American Football season and they offer much higher limits. BUT I don't play at any European or Aussie books so I couldn't tell you about their handle.

US Football v World Cup soccer

Probably "visitors" are the winner here, but not sure.
In any other case,I think the "home team" wins easily, even though the asian illegal betting market which enjoys soccer, is quite big.

don't know anything about the volume of the us-sports volume... but the european soccer volume is VERY high... thinking that in austria or more volume generating england you don't even have to make a call... go to your next willhill/ladbrokes/wetten schwechat/kwette whatever... in these two countries getting a bet on soccer down is as normal as buying your croissants for breakfast...

Pretty sure forgi and plus 4x or 5x the amount of bettors more than the usa so volume is way ahead of us.

jj...

don't have a clue about the william hill "street shops"... i'm swiss and have only bet there 2 times when i was in england...

what you say about asian locals...in europe there aren't much locals anymore, because NOT ONE euro government cares about sportswagering as long as it isn't affecting there lottery taxes...

4 or 5 times the amount of bettors would be the equal amount in action in my thoughts...

the average eurosquare bets between 10 - 20 dollars a game...

after reading all the us-forums for about 2 years i think the average ussquare bets 50 - 100...

btw...don't have any clue about asians betting eurosoccer except of the FIXED 3rd and lower italian divisons and the FIXED 4th and lower english divisions...

There are many more fixes and in more high-profile leagues and not only asians fix them

In fact it's more probable a fixed game would occur for instance in English Division 1 then in the leagues you mentioned, because those leagues draw a minimal betting action, hence no practical purpose to fix a match.
