Fred posted something similar once and I found it to be hilarious, it's even funnier now that I see how true it is. Why is it a "blast" to moderate these places......

- Because if you let a loud mouth continue to act like a jerk 53% will say you are losing control of the board, if you ban the guy the other 47% will say you are going overboard and on a power trip.

- If you stop a guy from repeatedly trashing a book he doesn't like than 48% will say you are covering up and the players need to know that stuff, if you delete the thread the other 52% say you are playing favoritism and would never do that against an advertiser.

- If you post on a player's behalf and try to help him get his money than 50% will say you are badmouthing a book because he doesn't advertise with you, if you side with the book the other 50% say you are a sell out and probably getting match plays on the side.

- If you edit a borderline post with racism involved than about half will say you are being a stick in the mud and crippling free speech, "heck we are all gamblers here I didn't take it that way". If it's close and you let it stand the other half will swear you are a racist and condoning what the poster wrote.

- If we edit a guy in the political forum than 50% of the folks (USA haters) will be outraged we said anything to him and picking on him for his views, the other 50% (USA lovers) will be ready to leave if we don't do something.

- We often hear from posters all day long about how can you allow that in off-shore??!? How is that gambling related? Two days later that same person is asking about the local Avon representative in off-shore and is ready to leave for greener pastures if you move it.

- We ban a guy like Beantown than 45% of the people will say what took you so long to ban that idiot, 49% will say how can you ban Beaner he's what makes it fun here. The other 6% either won't know who Beaner is or they are getting ready to follow him to the next forum.

- If there is industry wide concern about one of your advertisers and you leave him up 75% will swear the RX only cares about money and never looks out for the players, if you pull him down because you think it's right than the other 25% will then swear you have an agenda and are probably trying to extort the book.

LOL! I can go on and on. Of course this is mostly tongue in cheek but it is true in a lot of ways. Usually about 90% of the forum is fine and understands you are running a business. They know we try and hear all sides but we can not do everything just the way they would. They offer suggestions but move on quickly if the call goes against them. The other 10% will be upset if you change the black ink to dark black ink. They don't care what you do but are looking to garner attention and will usually never stop until banned. Though they are the minority they will scream louder than the other 90% combined, LOL. Keep in mind if a decision does not go your way we are not trying to show you up or making a call against you personally. There are people on both sides of the fence on just about every thing we do. It's damn near impossible to please everyone here as with over 12000 members there are 12000 people smarter than you watching your every move.

This place does a lot and while we are not perfect we put in tons of effort, we really do. We have a free Live Line service that took a lot of work and dedication, we are very proud of it. We have raised the standards of the avertisers we have here. I remember the books some used to try and get on board here, you won't see Pro 5 or Yahoops these days. Also when we think a book is in danger we try and take them down before trouble starts, not after the players get stiffed and are wondering what is going on. We also do a tremendous amount of work for players that a lot of people do not know about. Probably never will either. I can't ever remember not trying to help a player, we don't always win but we always put forth full effort. Even other sites often send players our way to help them, can't think of anything I am more satisfied with than that. In addition we are putting together a nice party in Las Vegas for our readers and hope to do something like this every year. Not all can come this year but it will grow and become an annual event for us. And lastly we try and throw out a big array of contests for our readers. We will have over 5 football contests going on this season for posters who like that sort of stuff and are giving away money every week in baseball. Just like hockey, basketball, football etc...

Its a lot of work here but I admit it is also a lot of fun. All of us who work here get along well and we try to do what we think is best. We had over 350 people just the last month register and if we have to ban 5 or 6 some people don't understand it. These forums always evolve and some of the posters who loved you 6 months ago may not care for you now, we don't like it but we understand it. Just try and keep in mind it is not as easy as it looks to keep everyone happy but we are always open for suggestions. Sorry for the commerical but in life people like to talk on the negative stuff, once in a while we want to talk on the good stuff too. We have been getting a lot of positive feedback so I know we are headed the right way, we appreciate all of you who have stuck with us and are helping us along. With your help we are only going to get stronger and stronger down the road. It's been a great ride so far, thanks for being such a big part of it.

Patrick,

First of all, that's why you all get the big money... now that the laughter has subsided, I would like to say that the mods do a good job, overall. There is no way to please everyone. When you have this many people with this many different personalities and agendas things are going to be wild at times. When you look at political approval rates, anything over 60% is considered great and that means 40% hate the guy. You all get blasted from time to time and that's going to happen. And sometimes I feel mods do get a little heavy handed. But then again, that's just MY opinion. No site is going to keep everyone happy. If you all were giving out $100.00 for every post some posters would be bitching why aren't you giving out $110.00 every post. All in all, I think the health of the RX reflects the job you all do. And right now I'd say it's pretty healthy.

Hang in there, McIrish, you're doing a great job moderating this place. The same goes for the rest of the moderators!

Patrick,

Another enlightening, informative post that should be required reading for all posters. I commend everyone at the Rx for taking on a tough job and doing it as well as can be expected considering the circumstances. The Rx, and you in particular, have provided me with the opportunity to learn how to win at sports betting and, I thank you.

Would love to be able to attend the Vegas party, as Vegas is my favorite place on the planet. Maybe next time. Hope you all have a blast, as you deserve it. Would like to suggest that you plan the next party for one of the cooler months of the year.

Pat, Judging from you record since you became a moderator this has become one very expensive job, I hope you love this job because your books sure do.Like all good streaks, all bad streaks must come to end. GL

I don`t post a lot, mostly during FB season. I did get carried away this spring in the political forum, never again. I could no more do your job than be a cop. My fuse is too short! Objectvity is not my strong suit. You and all the other guys generally do a great job, in a thankless roll. Did you have a personal history w/BTJ? LOL

Jdog - you are correct. I don't want to use it as an excuse but picks have gone downhill ever since I got here. Incredible. I was warned that would happen but didn't believe it.

Max/ Eric/ Methinks / Trent - thanks guys we really appreciate it. A lot of times people are satisfied with the site but would rather not comment than possibly get attacked by some whiners. Hell I can't really blame them, most people don't want trouble from anyone. Thanks for speaking out and showing some support. I would be lying if I didn't say it is nice to hear a good word from time to time. We got work to do but I like what we are trying to do. If I can ever do you a favor you guys let me know.

Duck - that was hilarious. And the funny thing is you are exactly right. I think some of the insecure posters sometimes are afraid of the label of being an "asskisser". Much safer to rip others and be respected as a stand up guy rather than risk the dreaded asskisser label. LOL.

Silver - thanks sir. I have no issues with Beaner, I admit I can't take him seriously but I am just kidding around with him. Thanks for the feedback!

Good post Patrick.

And I agree, it is tough to try and balance the field here, but it's a good way to help players and we know we do our best.

Thanks to all of you who contribute by posting, i have become aware of some of in's and out's of the Sportsbook industry.

Even when i don't post i am picking up something important that is relavant to being a successful gambler.

I appreciate that there is a site such as this, although i know there are other sites out there, i remain faithful to the RX since some of the 1st important info i picked up was on this site.

Knowing that this site does not operate without someone paying the bills, i have made a committment to use those that advertise here on the RX 1st and foremost whenever i open an account offshore. That is one of my ways of contributing back to the RX since i am just not as knowledgeable to contribute by posting as some of you out there.

Thank you RX, Shrink, Mods. Techies, and all those behind the scene, that don"t get any credit and to the advertisers.

Looking forward to seeing you all that can make it to Vegas.
