J: OK. so you're saying you have to get a little deeper into it. OK, point #3 states PERSONAL GOALS SHOULD INFLUENCE THE WAY YOU PLAY, Very interesting.
Sonny: Yes and this is very important Jack, Not only in winning or losing, but in life. In other words what I did all my years, once I took it seriously, and your earlier remark when you said are you going to play as a hobby or vocation. What i'm doing is reiterating your remark in different words. What I'm saying here is that if you're going to play for a living, you have to realize that you need a bankroll, you need a temperament, . You need a certain personality, you have to give up certain things in life. If you're going to play for a hobby, you might every once in a while bet $10 or $20 just to see if I'm smarter than the linemaker. If you're ganna bet for interest because a game is on TV and that day you let me bet $20. What I'm saying is that you have to conduct yourself accordingly.
Jack: In other words you have to set the realistic goals. You can't live in a fantasy that you're going to take one hour a week to handicap football and make a fortune.
Sonny: Right, but what I'm actually saying is that your personal goals should influence the way you play.
In other words, if you're looking to play for a living, you have to know and take advantage of every little angle. You can't make too many mistakes or you won't survive. If you're going to play for a hobby you know your're going to lost a few bucks. It's what i call entertainment expense. Your're gonna bet every game on TV for $20. You'll win a few, lose a few. That's what I'm trying to say.
Jack: I guess that lead up to point #4(to be continued)
