July 24, 2003 -- NBA superstar Kobe Bryant bought his wife, Vanessa, an eye-popping $4 million, eight-carat purple diamond ring just days after admitting adultery and being accused of raping a Colorado hotel worker, says a new report.
Bryant - accompanied by his wife and their 6-month-old daughter, Natalia - picked up the ring Monday from an exclusive jewelry boutique in Santa Monica, Calif., two weeks after specially commissioning it, reports People magazine in an article on newsstands tomorrow .
"They looked very happy together," said Raffi, the man who made the jewelry, and who two years ago crafted the couple's wedding rings, according to People.
Only last Friday, Bryant was formally charged with felony sexual assault of a 19-year-old woman who went with the L.A. Lakers guard to his upscale hotel room in Edwards, Colo., on July 1.
On the same day he was charged, Bryant denied using force on the woman, but admitted having consensual sex with her.
Vanessa Bryant, 20, has backed her husband, saying in a prepared statement that "I will give him all the strength and support he needs to face these false accusations."
Kobe Bryant, 24, was arrested on July 4.
