I have always been curious as to why so many more gamblers simply read these forums but don't contribute...

I am a firm believer that the more who contribute, the better the site will be...

I think people feel that somehow their
identity will be exposed. Via IP address or through a book or emails will be sold. I know that is not the case but people think this.

It took me a while to start posting because I didn't think I had anything of value to add. On a site like this, there is always someone more knowledgeable on a given topic. Not sure exactly what triggered me to start posting, but once you have a few posts in, it becomes much easier to keep adding. And I realized that added voices always can add something to the topic at hand.

Another thing I think people may be scared off is getting flamed and run off the board. There's a lot of posting wars in here, and that may intimidate new posters.

Finally, the number one thing that has gotten me to post on other forums is handicapping contests, where you have to post picks in a thread. I think some more of these will get new posters started. Then they're hooked.

Way to be proactive Shrink! Threads like this is what keeps the Rx on top!

Lurkers are bad..

They are like parasites feeding on our ideas, thoughts, and gambling smarts. We posters are their unsuspecting prey.

They are like hawks just watching from above. And before we know it they swoop down and bite into our necks quickly sucking out all our ideas, thoughts, and gambling knowledge.

They are like snakes lurking in the high bush and grass ready to take a venomous bite into our unsuspecting feet. Ready to suck the gambling blood right out of our mortal bodies.

Thery are like soft pink bunny rabbits...uh...I don't know where I am going with this one.

They are takers.
They are users.
They are abusers.

These lurkers are silently amassing a huge lurker nation. Ready to overtake our haughty, yet somewhat humble, forum home. They will stop at nothing.

You know a poster named Raiders? He was a lurker!
How about Journeyman? He was a lurker!
What about our good buddy McIrish? Yes he was a lurker too.
Yes, even I was a lurker for a while!!!
And the list goes on and on and on.

These lurkers are quickly taking over our forums.

We must stop them now! We must halt them before it gets too late. Before we are all held under the unforgiving law of their dictatorship.

We must cripple them now.....We must topple their foundation....we must ignore their beings....we must get rid of each and every single lurker....now!

This may seem like an impossible task....but there actually is one way to accomplish our goal and rid ourselves of this lurker scum....

Turn the lurkers into Posters!

i think it's true some may be intimidated by some of the flame wars etc.

Moderators should be on the lookout for posters bashing newbie posters.

I ONLY HAVE AROUND 60 POSTS, AND I GUESS I WAS A LITTLE INTIMIDATED. HOWEVER, AFTER A WHILE I REALIZED THAT I AM A COLLEGE GRADUATE WITH AN IQ THAT ECLIPSES MOST PEOPLE OUT THERE, AND THAT YES, I CAN CONTRIBUTE. ANYONE WHO BELIEVES THAT THEY CAN IN ANY WAY, SHOULD GET INVOLVED. NOBODY SHOULD GIVE A RATS ASS IF SOME PINHEAD CRITICIZES THEM AS LONG AS THEY ARE TRYING. IF SOMEONE WRITES GRAMMATICALLY INCORRECT, SO WHAT. THE PURPOSE OF THESE FORUMS IS TO HELP ONE ANOTHER.
