Compulsive or pathological gamblers

One percent to 2 percent of the general adult population can be diagnosed as pathological gamblers, according to the American Psychiatric Association, which has recognized compulsive gambling as an impulse disorder since 1980 in its Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. Another 2 percent have problems but cannot be diagnosed.

Compulsive or pathological gamblers are increasingly preoccupied with gambling, need to bet more money, more frequently, and are restless or irritable when attempting to stop. They try to recoup their losses, called chasing, and suffer a loss of control, continuing to gamble in the face of negative consequences. Some studies suggest problem gamblers have higher rates of divorce, suicide and incarceration.

You want to see Pathological or Compulsive gamblers go to college campuses! I dealt with football tickets for years and I moved between 100-150 tickets a week but I had 2 guys in colleges who moved bout 300 each a week! College people are becoming a large part of the beting world! Off Shore is great for me! This way I can't pick up a phone and call my local guy and bet 10 dimes that I don't have on a game!

There have been recent studies suggesting that the problem of compulsive gambling is and has been grossly overstated in society in general.

I do not recall the exact statistics but posted a related article across the street a few weeks ago, if I come across it again, I'll post it below.

addiction is a TERM Psychs LOVE to throw around,,, do you know what the parameters are to be an alchoholic?? one of them is no matter how many times you drink in a month or a year,,, if you ever drink to get drunk then you are an alcoholic.,,,, If you drink by yourself while watching a football game,,you are an alcoholic,,,,
so Lame,,, I am certain the numbers are overinflated,,, politics and special interests need the $$ to show there is a Bogus problem,,,

Actually, I started mowing lawns after 6th grade (big lawns), was paying 2 others by the end of the summer that year (and had to buy the mowers myself). I still remember my father telling me to be careful because the tax man was going to come after me.

I thought it was normal....my family had money, but I wanted "my money". That's when mowing grass became copying sheets in the old mans office in 7th grade.

BTW...I think it was 8th grade before I took my 1st $20 play-no shit.
