This is what its about folks. IMO this is the try meaning of sportsmanship. Both of these riders have a great respect for each other. Ullrich probably knew that he has lost the title by waiting for lance .
But, It was the "RIGHT" thing to do. He did not want to beat the man when he was on his back. he knows also that this is probably the last year Lance wins this
CLASSY move Ullrich I will route for you in the next Tour to win

it was classy but i attribute the move to the sport in general not ullrich specifically. in cycling the competitors are expected to wait that situation.
putting cycling tradition aside, i'll consider ullrich's move payback for lance waiting for him last year after HE made a mistake and went head first over a barrier and over a short cliff. lance saw the accident, slowed the pace and waited for ullrich to catch up. a few kilometers later he quickened the pace, took a look at ullrich behind him, and promptly pulled away leaving ullrich's hopes of winning the tour in the proverbial dust.
i'm not trying to take away from ullrich but just wanted to add a different perspective. with that said, many of our favorite sports can learn a lesson from this cycling norm, especially college football where running up the score is commonplace. (but i sure love when it helps get me the over)
i won't be rooting for ullrich until lance is done. then i'll be rooting for hamilton.
