I am considering opening up a bank account outside of the U.S. so that I can access some of the bigger Australian and Englsih books. Does anyone have any advice on where I should open the account (I have friends willing to help in Ireland, the U.K., and Canada) and about what kind of features I should look for? Should I request a debt card? If so, what kind? What currency should I use? Are bank wire deposits/withdrawals as easy as using Neteller or much more complicated? I would be really grateful for any advice.

These days in Europe normally spoken one can only open an account, if one is resident in that country.
I would guess that there are some good places in the Caribbean. Not sure, as I have not tested any of them.
HSBC in Asia has excellent internet banking in every country where I have an account with them.

good luck but it is tough now because of 911. you should speak to someone that specializes in offshore banking. or move to another country for a bit and establish residency.

I have friends who are willing to open an account in their name and let me have complete access to it, meaning I could open up accounts with books in their names, make depsoits/ withdrawals, etc. My question is about which country is best to do that in. My understanding, which may be mistaken, is that Ireland and the U.K. are not at all concerned about gambling; I have been told it's legal and non-taxable (I plan on vountarily paying taxes if I make a profit, but in the form of capital gains). Canada would be more convenient, but are they equally lax?

I am tired of worrying about potential legislation and I want access to all the sites that consider Americans off limits, especially those in countries that have strict gaming regulatory boards, like Australia.

This is the problem I am trying to solve and I would be grateful for any advice or suggestions.

Sh(t like this makes me want to move to Vegas.......

You have to lie that you have no overseas accounts.....If you have friends that will let you do this sh(t, that's great, but do you really trust other people with your money, especially if you win.....

I want to just bet the hell out of the upcoming season but I'm not sending 25K offshore and trusting others with my money.......maybe SOME OF MY MONEY, LIKE 10%, BUT NOT MORE.....

Good luck to you, I'll take the bad lines but control my dollars myself in Vegas.....

setting up will be easy for you since you have friends that can help. one suggestion for you would be to establish a credit card with the bank you open an account with, then have the bill paid directly from your account.

One can open a bank account in virtually any country in Europe from virtually any other country on earth.

As far as Caribes go, Loyal Bank in St. Vincent is pretty good for it's Internet accessibility and privacy policy. Banco Interfin in Costa Rica is not bad, although I don't really trust CR right now with the changes that have come under Pacheco's rule.

I also recommend HSBC. I have used them for some time and find them extremely reliable, plus they are one of (if not the) largest banks in the world, and have branches in almost every country, with excellent Internet accessibility.
