What can be said in correlation with the US economy and the well being/success of offshore gambling?

The US economy has been downward for awhile and my impression is the sportsbooks still do well, although a better US economy would have to mean more take for the books.

All industries go through expansions and contractions. It seems that the sportsbook industry is i nthe latter phase -- look at all of the books that mushroomed up all over the place from the late 90's up to 2001, and look how many have gone tits-up in the last year.

As far as relation to the US economy goes, people tend to sacrifice savings first, entertainment last, so the gambling industry out to be okay for a while. And when things get better, people tend to celebrate and act stupid first, save and plan last, so an economic upswing will only help the books too.

A smart book tries not to let itself get hooked on one particular country as a source of clientele.
