I am a little new to the terms so excuse me if this is a stupid question

I have gambled for about a year and a half. I made a decent amount last year and so far I have this year also. I don't consider myself a "sophisticated" gambler but feel that I can break stuff down pretty well.

No not by definition. If you win year after year I put you more in the sharp category. Actually there are tweeners too. Guys that aren't dumb as a rock but can't be considered sharp. Maybe we need a term for them....

Followers & chasers are terms that come to mind.

I have some square tendencies such as chasing but overall I do still do OK. I guess I have just had a lucky year and a half run

If you are truly a square and never do research or know much about the sport you are betting on and just say "Man, the Lakers are awesome with Kobe and Shaq so I will bet them to win it all"...then you will lose in the long run. If you are a "tweener" like McIrish was saying and have followed sports and truly know the basics and do your own capping of games and form opinions and then come to a site like the RX and look what other cappers who are a little more "sharp" are doing, I think you can do well most years. Also I would like to know this though. If a true square followed the top five consensus picks in the Hilton NFL Supercontest every week last season what would have been their winning %.??? This gets into Joey C's point of followers and chasers, but if you can win doing it does it really matter?

I used to consider myself an "educated square" but based on a few of these posts, I think I like the term "tweener." I don't chase but I do follow on occasion. I track stats and form opinions on games and look for confirmation using data and posts from site like this. Since I've changed my style to become more of a tweener and place fewer bets I have won fairly consistently. With that said, I don't think a true "square" can win year after year.

i group my player into the following catagories

1. squares...........lose consistently

2. educated gamblers........these are gamblers that use money-management and are fairly disciplined, they know the value of shopping for the right number, middlers and scalpers fall into this catagory, ect.. they are capable of showing a profit.

3. sharps or wiseguys..........some might disagree with me on this but the majority of my sharps dont handicapp games they use key information to make their selections, using money management and discipline they shop for the right number to get down taking advantage of books soft on the number, they can be very tough to beat..
