HoopsHype Any Basketball junkie should have this page as a bible reference. The mos comprehensive listing of informatio I have found on the net.

(by the way, if anybody knows of a similar page for NFL, MLB, NHL or world soccer please post them)

Look at the salaries link. If you understand current contracts and the salary cap then you understand WHY the NBA works as it does.

If you think David Stern "fixes" things in the NBA you are wrong. He doesn't need to. Everybody plays under the same rules, there are just some people that are beter at it than others. That's why they keep winning. The scouts are better and the managers are better at setting up contracts. Popovich in San Antonio is a prime example of this. He set his team up with free agency in 2003 in mind. The one thing that could be called unfair is that big-market teams have more cash and thus can hire the proven manager, the guy that puts together championships.

You want proof that the NBA is not rigged? Look at the biggest market in sports... the Knicks.

They suck, they have sucked for a few years and because of Layden they will continue to be bad for at least a couple of more years. They have the most money tied up long-term of any team, they consistently hire undersized veterans trying to get an immediate championship instead of taking a couple of years of losses to get together a young nucleous. The only good move they have made in the past 3 years was finally trading "the fragile one" (Camby) and this years Draft (the 7-5 skinny white boy from Russia late in teh second round is a bad pick, though).

They traded "El Nene" for McDyes, as if they need more injury prone undersized power forwards. Do you think they would like to take that trade back now? Look at Denver, they will be players 3 years from now. Look at Memphis, they will contend 2 years from now. Both small-market teams. Look at the Knicks, they will be contenders in..... Never mind.

Super,

I do not think its Rigged I think this is simply the OLD nba player that has never gotten a ring sees the chance to get one with LA. I think LA will be "the team" that all these old players a few years from retirement will go to try to "get a ring"

The question is.... will it work? Remember Barkley/Drexler/Olajuwon in Houston? A good NBA team needs role-players. How are Shak, Malone, Payton and Bryant gonna distribute shot attempts? They can't each shoot 20 times. There is only one ball on the court, who gets it?

we know you're a Laker fan SW, and I hope they sign Payton aand especially, Malone. Then there'll be no shot of them winning again

NATE. You are right. With all 4 of them in one team I'd have to pick the hated ones (Sacramanto) to win next season. Unless Kidd goes to SA, or Zo can play well with Dallas; then it's a toss-up between those 3.

How's this for a line-up:

The lakers DONT sign malone but instead bite the $ bullet and go for P.J. Brown to fill up their 4 (he will live with few shot attempts) adn trade or a spot-up 3 point shooter? The Triangle NEEDS bombs from outside.

Superwimp, how about they DO sign Malone and get rid of Kobe! With Payton and Malone as upgrades, just feed Shaq the ball 9 out of 10 times down the court like they have in previous years and they will win it again. Hasnt anyone noticed the Lakers downfall started this year when Kobe became even MORE of an attention craver?!

Who will win? Gee I don't know, maybe the team that won it last year who didn't change much, except add the best point guard in the game...

Well I am still not sure that this move be as dramatic as people think. For instance, with the addition of these players, you are taking away points from Shaq and Kobe. Could create a bit of "inner turmoil" that we wont see. But if anyone gets injured then they are set with the best bench
