You might want to be careful what you get up to in casinos these days. Everyone knows that camera surveillance is there for your protection and to spot cheats. But throw up at the blackjack table or get drunk and strip and you might find your embarrassing moment captured on tape and circulated among staff for laughs. So that’s why I keep getting sniggered at when I visit my regular casino.
At least that’s what an ex-employee of the Tulalip casino in Washington claims. After watching a copy of such a tape, Viooltje Arpryazhka complained to her bosses. The tape was a compilation made by the surveillance team for fun. However, Viooltje didn’t see the joke. She was offended by the footage, which included, among other things, a man vomiting, a well-endowed woman stuffing casino chips down her cleavage, someone urinating and a drunk female stripping naked.
Despite making several complaints to management, Viooltje insists the casino did nothing. The tape continued to be copied and circulated as entertainment. Instead of disciplining the surveillance staff as Viooltje expected she alleges that she became the focus of bullying and harassment. She believes she was eventually fired for whistle blowing.
Viooltje has taken the casino to court in a lawsuit in which she hopes to win $3 million in punitive and compensatory damages.@@
