Isn't there an email address you can write to to request that spammers stop bombarding you?

Any advice appreciated...

Thanks,
Ken

there is actually a service on the internet. your email goes there first, and then is forwarded to you.

It depends on which ISP you have. You can send them all your spam mail and hope they block it.

If you use Outlook you have better tools at hand.
In Outlook you can BLOCK spammers email address and even though they will continue to try to send you crap you NEVER see it because you have BLOCKED it from your mailbox.

That has been the simplest way I have found.

shrink,

the url is www.spamsoap.com

it costs $25 per month for 10 or less mailboxes.

here is how it works...

Your email is first routed to a Spam Soap filtering center where we analyze, sort, and then deliver it to you. The whole process takes less than 3 seconds.

To do this, Spam Soap becomes the MX (Mail eXchange) record for your domain. This is a simple change which directs email addressed to you to Spam Soap first. More information on this is available in our FAQ section.

Once in the Spam Soap system, each message is subjected to a complex set of tests that identifies spam.

Spam Soap utilizes an exclusive behavior prediction system. Other anti spam systems test for only what the content is saying (content). Spam Soap also tests for how it is being said (content and behavior).

Not only is this effective at catching spam, it also drastically reduces the chances of catching valid email.

This process takes less than 3 seconds and does not change the appearance or content of the email.

Once sorted, valid messages are delivered to intended recipients and spam is handled in one of two ways, depending on your preference.

Identified spam can all be sent to one mailbox, called the SpamBox™ (spambox@yourdomain.com), or tagged with a SpamTag™ identifier in the subject line and delivered to the original recipient.

Most Spam Soap clients prefer the SpamBox™ configuration. And choosing to switch is not a problem.

Shrink,

The "no spam" national list will be coming similar to the "no call" national list. The "no call" list has worked very well for me. The advice about not giving out your main email address is the best. Only use that for close associates. If it's really bad now, create a new address and give that out to the people who need to know and let the spammers fill up the old one. Filters are OK but if you're not careful you can block stuff you really wanted.

I am sure you get hundreds of spam messages a day. I get about 500. The best thing I ever did was use SpamNet

http://www.cloudmark.com/products/spamnet/

It uses peer to peer technology, so you won't have an important email deleted just because it happens to contain a "spam word". Everyone who use the product is allowed to click on whether an email is spam. If enough people say it is, then it will send that info to your computer and as the message is downloaded it will be sent to a spam folder not your inbox. You can instruct it to never block email from any email address (for instance I had to do that with a number of book's email newsletters, as others who got them considered them spam).

Only downside is can only be used with Outlook not Outlook Express (support come soon for it as well).

It used to be free, but now I think it costs $4 per month. I haven't had to pay yet (grandfathered for a couple more months), but I gladly will.

I have tried many, but SpamNet is the best.

Shrink, fortunately I only get porn site spam
icon_biggrin.gif
but I tried this program called mailwasher and it lets you bounce emails before it hits your Outlook Express (or whatever). Do this enough and the spammers will think you've turned your back on technology and actually use real mail.
