The Commerce and Online Gaming Regulation and Assurance organisation have officially announced that they will be adopting eGAP, aka, Generally Accepted Practices. Wow, I’ve never heard a term that is even less comprehensible than it’s abbreviation before.

Apparently Generally Accepted Practices require that eCORGA specify a list of minimum requirements and suggested practices. These are to ensure eCORGA focus on practices of business that address issue such as player protection and fair gaming.

Andrew Beveridge, chief executive of eCOGRA explains: “The primary objective of eCOGRA’s eGAP is player protection; by providing comfort to the player that the games are fair, the player will be paid in a timely manner and treated fairly, and that the operators will behave responsibly.”

The idea is that any online gaming sites that display eCORGA’s seal of approval have fallen in line with the demanding requirements, including eGAP, that eCORGA require. So, players will know that their interests are being looked after.

Just why this isn’t standard practice on a global scale already is beyond me. According to Andrew though: “While various online gaming jurisdictions have done a good job of drafting rules and regulations for online gaming, in many cases the implementation of these rules has been flawed as few regulators recognize the fundamental differences between land-based and online gaming.”@@
